This poll is only for folks that use only one daw, Reason.

I wanted to check whether folks that use reason as only daw would switch to reason rack if that were the ONLY option. I’m super curious whether folks who like the sequencer also think of reason as an “instrument”.

The plugins function in a way that does not exist elsewhere till you count softtube and reaktor.
The sequencer is standard edition, with as many features as live or FL but not cubase.
The plugins are stable enough to never see crashes.
The daw is used for education in a lot of facilities.

If Reason is still around for a version 12, that's probably when I'll upgrade from 10. And if Cakewalk is still free by then, I'll probably mess around with the Rack plugin in Cakewalk at that time. Meanwhile, I'll "keep using current version" (v10).

I'll still be using Reason 10 in 2030 if they drop the standalone DAW. I love Reason's sequencer... I don't want to use anything else.

I'll go back to Cubase if RS is no more, 100 years from now.

The idea of Reason standalone going away is horrifying to me. It's been my main investment of time and money since high school. My creative life lives inside of Reason, and I'm sure I'm not alone! Ugh.

In the event of, you could try meditation. I mean if you're just looking for a portable zen garden. Cheaper.

Maybe if that day comes, we can all get a group deal on portable zen gardens.

Anyway, the polling is interesting so far. Only a very small percentage of folks who use ONLY reason standalone daw say they’d switch to another daw and use reason rack.

That lines up with how I feel: I love reason as a daw. With all my heart, I hope reason standalone daw thrives for many more years! I hope props see from this thread that we all love the standalone daw.

I'm really not sure...part of me would be crushed, but I guess I'd end up switching to another DAW, and keep using my Reason stuff in the VST. I don't like that way of working with Reason, but it would be the closest thing to continuing with Reason, as long as I can find a halfway decent DAW that resonates with me. I would probably keep using Reason for a while at least, but if they dropped support for the DAW, eventually as new PC/hardware was released, Reason would start to sunset, and I'd be forced to move elsewhere.

that said, I don't think that's going to happen. at least I hope it doesn't. I'm more scared they'll shift towards a VST-first mindset, and still support the DAW, but just not as their primary focus.

either way, we should know in the next couple of years--the v11 midpoint updates and v12 will be pretty telling.

While there are further things I'd like to see added to Reason 11, there are no showstoppers that keep me from getting work done, so I'd probably hold out for quite a while because it's easier than relearning everything somewhere else.

I'm sure I'd eventually switch to another DAW. Who knows when. I can definitely say, between hardware and software, I've got enough instruments to serve me for the rest of my music making life, save maybe a nice orchestral set. Obviously, I can't speak for anyone other than myself, but development/advancement of the core function of whatever DAW I use is the only thing making me reach for my wallet at this point.

I would keep using current version of reason daw as long as possible. I'm way too lazy to learn a new DAW unless I really have too. Honestly I've got enough stuff in Reason with all my REs to keep me busy for at least 5 years. It would probably be good for my music making actually, to not worry about new gear/updates. I mean when I go back and listen to some of my older songs I was able to do a lot with very little. And I have about 10 times more stuff to choose from now.

As Within: My Spiritual Zen Garden (very portable, built-in since birth).
So Without: my therapeutic zen garden time with Reason.
As Above: a connection with [truth].
So Below: as in Reason is cheaper and easier to maintain than a traditional zen garden.

Reason is my primary DAW. I hope not to see Reason ever leave to just a plugin for another DAW. That would kinda suck for me. I have no reason to leave Reason (pun intended) with VST plugin support. As long as Reason is around, I'll keep investing in RE and upgrading Reason to its major versions and continue stocking up on VSTs. I'm kinda stuck in Mac land but the only thing that would drive me away is moving to Linux... but as my digging continued, there's talk in the tech world that Windows may swap their kernel with the linux kernel, which would compel me to consider Windows in the future. Yes I just said that.

I switched to Ableton Live a week ago and my plan is to upgrade some day to Reason 11 and never ever again. If the given situation would happen I would do exactly the same

As it stands just now I’d be happy using Reason 10.4 until I can no longer get it together to play music any more. Great stuff!!!

Main and only DAW for a foreseeable future, I have nothing else installed on the computer. I had Ableton for a while, mostly used when I had some writers' block (I must admit that Ableton is great to start a project and fin ideas).

I have tried a few weeks Reason as a VST with Ableton at launch but I don't really see the point. I'd rather have the full thing.

Funny how the same tools inspire very different workflows. I prefer starting projects in Reason and find it the most inspiring for writing music fast, but find Ableton much better for finishing projects and currently only mix in live; nothing better than having my rack extensions available in any channel in live.

So I basically have a hybrid setup now since Reason 11 came out. Sometimes start new projects in live with the rack plugin. Other times I start them in Reason and then bounce the audio and finish the stuff in live. I'm loving the choices available.

For my day job though, I will only use Reason for editing dialogue and if they stopped supporting the standalone, I would just keep using it until no longer possible. I don't see myself ever doing that in live! So I will keep upgrading for as long as the updates are useful to me either for my day job or my music job.

I really doubt they will ever discontinue the standalone, though. Don't make me learn protools!!! 😭😂

I would continue to use Reason for as long as I still could. After that I might switch DAW or stop making music I'll be very old in 50 years when I see a slight potability Reason is not a DAW anymore.

The sequencer will exist as long as Reason will. They recently said so (probably on FB) when a user aired his concern about this new direction. Secondly it's only a small part of the whole package, and since it's been developed for almost 2 decades, most things are already in place, honestly.

Going around worrying that the sequencer will be gone in the next big update is a complete waste of energy, won't happen.
