Has anyone out there managed to get usable note CV out of VCV and into Reason?

Been playing around a lot with the Turing machine, buffers and sequential switches which have been the missing piece of the puzzle for me. I'd like to use this CV to trigger some of my REs. There is a VST version of VCV forthcoming, but for the moment it is a standalone DAW.

I fudged something together using VCV's CV-Midi out and Reason's midi settings which allowed me to get a clock pulse through, however, although doing the same with not CV did result in note data coming through, it was scrambled, with the pitches all over the place.

There are lots of tutorials and posts about doing things the other way round and clocking VCV from Reason, but what about doing it the other way.

[Edit] I've also tried getting audio into Reason and using Robotic Bean's Audio-CV utility to convert it to CV, but again I get the same garbled note values. And just noticed that it has a disclaimer on the product page saying it can't handle note CV because of 'different standards'.

OSX, Reason 10

Hi, i made this video a while back.
With the use my audio interface MOTU Ultralite MK4 virtual audio channels, i can send both audio and cv from VCV to REASON or the other way around.
I also use SW Sync plugin from the excellent Expert Sleepers Silentway plugin suite, to send rock steady stable clock sync to VCV.

Here is another approach i did using VCV Bridge plugin and module

However i am looking forward to use VCV inside Reason as a VST plugin once it is officially released, which is soon.

Note:
I understand not everyone has a MOTU card, you can try this approach with some other virtual audio driver, but i don't know if they will give the same results.

@eurikon thanks. I actually watched that and it was helpful.

Think i have the patching working (using Jack), however the pitch is off when I pass it into a synth within Reason.

I guess the problem with this approach is that you are limited to monophonic note data. Did you every try outputting midi data from VCV into Reason? That would mean you could get a polyphonic melody into a synth wouldn't it?

@chimp_spanner I know. F**k running Reason in another DAW. Give me VCV in Reason and I'll never need to upgrade again. The sheer breadth and quality of the modules is absurd. And the great majority are free.

This works like a charm inside Reason. Prolly the best way to work with both programs until the official VST release.

@Rackman as you have noticed the CV converter from Robotic beans doesn't perform well for note/pitch data.
That is why i use virtual midi driver for note/pitch instead, which works fine sending polyphonic midi data out from VCV to Reason.

It is a pity that Reason is not using a 10 volt/octave standard, which would make things much easier and more compatible.

So there are several ways of doing things currently, either i keep my sequences inside VCV and sync VCV (via audio clock pulse) to Reason for recording into Reason.
Or, sync VCV (via audio clock pulse) to Reason , and send midi data from VCV to Reason through virtual midi.

@Iapetus 9 , yes i am aware of the VCV VST fork, i used it in the beginning, but it is lacking to much compared to where we are at now in VCV.
So i stopped using it and will wait for the real deal.

Tell me about it. The mind boggles at the possibilities. I also have Voltage Modular which I guess is a good indicator of how VCVST (they need to call it that ;) ) will feel. But for some reason I don’t use it as much as I thought I would.

@chimp_spanner It's going to be like having a super-combinator with a tonne of first class modular REs inside. I'd really started to give up on Reason and the RE ecosystem, but this makes things interesting again.

I did this with MIDI in the end. Instructions are here: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7520668&p=529389#p529389

I use the VCV bridge it works really well but TBH I have now moved over to Voltage Modular as it's so much easier to integrate.
