hello,

happy new year

does anyone know of a native Reason device, RE, refill, or vst
that plays a good hang drum / hand pan?

the real instrument is like 1500$ and up
and it is restricted to 1 key (afaik)

but the sound is just wonderful and soothing to me

thanks for your help,

j

I own this one:
http://www.soniccouture.com/en/products ... pan-drums/ (can be used with the free Kontakt Player).
Now it's 129 €, but I bought it when there was 50% off. Sounds authentic and offers a lot of tweeking, too.

Not quite a Hang Drum...but free. You can get some similar tones from it.

+1! Also imho soniccouture have the best plugins for natural sounds. I really love this company!

I've had the pleasure of experiencing hang playing twice - once as part of a 'sound healing' after a Kirtan (yes, I know, a bit new age) and again in a chill out tent at a forest rave. The instrument is truly incredible, and I looked into buying one, but discovered what you did - they are super expensive. I have seen instruments much cheaper with a similar sound made out of propane gas bottles.

As for a plugin solution - I'll bet you can get a sound that at least embodies the spirit of the hang, albeit not quite the same, by building up a patch with song of the sounds in Klang, as was suggested. Probably starting with a combination of the circle bells and the imbibaphone in a low register, and the attack rolled off a bit to emulate the softer strike of human hands rather than mallets.

If you own Kontakt (full version), then Alien Drum from 8dio is fantastic and something like 78USD.

I wish the tank drum instrument patch in Klang was better. I find it pretty unusable personally. Sounds like they just got a random gas tank and hit it. It doesn't sound as musical as other tank / tongue drums I've heard.
