Until "Monotone Bass Synthesizer" is monophic (as name says) - its usage is limited.
It can be used if the MIDI track is monophonic or some users want to create a monophonic bassline.
Do NOT get me wrong - I am NOT complaining! More devices = more fun.

But "Nautilus Bass Synthesizer" (which is free rack extension) is polyphonic.

All instruments have limits. Some have limits because they are designed for a specific task. You already have plenty of polyphonic synths in Reason so you have options if you need polyphony.

You meant to say "As long as..."

Also, you have to look at it in the context of Reason Compact, where Monotone is for bass, while Europa is for melodies/chords. Lastly, it's been given away for free, so...

When I think synth bass polyphonic doesn’t even register. It would be a useful feature yes but how much music is being produced with polyphonic synth bass? It’s absolutely possible I just haven’t come across any musical examples that jump out at me. Maybe it’s a subtle thing. For those of you that write polyphonic synth bass lines can you share some examples please?

Yes! I discovered distributor a few months back, and loving it!

Good for making mono bass polyphonic. Also good for adding craziness to an arp pattern.

It's quite common when playing a bass guitar to have one string ring out while playing notes on another, often called pedal note.

The first example that comes to mind for me would be the intro to Iron Maiden - The Clairvoyant, though it's not a synth bass in this case.

I play bass guitar polyphonically all the time... thinking about it more I see that translating some of those kinds of riffs to a monophonic synth that can do polyphonic bass lines might actually be kind of cool!

Use more than one Monotone Bass Synthesizer to create polyphonic bass lines.
Since we have multi MIDI clip editing, it should work fine.

By using https://www.propellerheads.com/shop/rac ... istributor you can placeall the the MIDI data in the same MIDI clip.

There's no need to buy a rack extension. In the attached song I used 2 Monotones to play the bass line.

And if sounds should be free, check out the bass presets for Thor, SubTractor, Malström, Europa, Grain and NN-XT. All those sounds can be played polyphonic.

Yes, you are right! It's up to me to decide.
But "invest" in what? In making music? Let me tell you something!
I'm making music just for fun, not for money!
I'm making music from 25 years and nothing will change my mind!
