Obviously the 14 and the 6 are the number of mixer channels, but what's the "2" for? Is it as simple as "Left and Right"? Almost everthing has a left and right, we don't stick a "2" on the name. We don't say Malstrom:2 or Subtractor:1 ... just some random pondering on a quiet Sunday afternoon...

As I said, though, that seems odd. Is there some legacy hardware reason for that kind of naming?

You can have 28 mono channels, mixed to 14 stereo. Sounds reasonable to me.

I think it's common to specify the number of audio channels on hardware mixer that way.

Yeah it's usually how actual mixers are named. For example, a mixer labelled 16.4.2 would mean the mixer has 16 input channels, 4 internal busses, and 2 outputs.
