Hi all,

I've decided to remove all ads from the site, now leaving the right sidebar rather empty.

The right sidebar will now be reserved for developers wanting to advertise a coming update, a new release or whatever, Free of charge!, as long as it's centered around Reason as a product. Just shoot me or anyone from the moderator team a PM with:
  • The title of the ad
  • The URL it should link to
  • An image (dimensions: width: 270px, height: 270px)
  • Start and end date
That's it!

I want ReasonTalk to be about Reason and the eco-system around it, including any ads we might show. Even though Google Ads made us recoup a couple of months a year, it just felt wrong. So does taking money from RE/Refill developers for advertising their stuff.

If you really want to support ReasonTalk, you're welcome to donate - If you don't, that's totally fine as well!

That's all :)

Sounds really good to me too. Would also be an option to promote own music creations as an ad?
There are some pretty good artists in this forum and it would be nice to know when they upload or release something new also through this forum :)

I've been tinkering with the idea of automating this, so having a "rotation" in the right sidebar, and an interface where people can submit their ad proposal for review. If approved, it'll get into rotation automatically. Needless to say, this has to be built first, but that would obviously include RT artists promoting their releases as well!

Very nice idea, this is really one of the best communities I've seen out there

Awesome Kenni, this will work really well for the site and the community.

Reddust's idea and the rotation idea are great too.

Thanks! :D

I might add a donation box below the "Ads" space in the sidebar, we'll see! :)

Straight request/suggestion (depending on how you want to see the financial part of this platform - break-even or profitable in the future):
Make a transparancy post about the monthly costs for this platform including server costs, maintenance etc.
Tell the community how much you gathered last month.

Two scenarios: In case you gather more donations than it costs, this goes into a pool until a certain amount of money (e.g. 50 €) is collected. Make a community competition where the winner is allowed to chose something from the shop (REs or refills) for that pool amount that was set. (Maybe let the community vote so the team here does not get a lot of extra work, exclude the winner of a competition for the next couple of competitions, show the top 3 in the side bar until the next competition happened).

In case you gather less money, some people will most likely be motivated to donate a dollar or two for a bad month (or to fill the pool as competitions are fun).

And thank you for removing ads!

I would actually not mind these sites doing a subscription based approach.

A Reason user's music player would be really cool in that space.

I think so too. An embedded Soundcloud list or something similar where the devs can choose which user songs are to be shown for which period of time. But now that I said Soundcloud, maybe that platform isn't the best idea as they are putting ads pretty blatantly and annoying ads, not some gear from a music store but Macdonalds audios and such
