Triggering an effect through gate

hi all,
I have a question that is maybe a bit stupid - but can I trigger an effect (for instance, the "scale" effect in Scream 4) through the gate out of ReDrum? I'd like this effect to peak every time the drums hit, and I thought I could do this through a Combinator button, but cannot seem to get it to work.
Any ideas?
