Will reason stop scanning for VSTs for every single program startup?

If it's constantly scanning your plugin directory, you have an issue. Once Reason scans, it doesn't repeat unless you have a plugin that is misbehaving/crashing.

It only scans when I install a new plugin.

Same. Though if I have a plugin that crashes, Reason will scan it again at startup until I disable it (or uninstall it).

Can have something to do with 32bit VSTs?

Unlikely. Reason only can use 64-bit and ignores 32-bit, unless the OP is using jBridge or something similar.Boombastix wrote: ↑11 Dec 2018Can have something to do with 32bit VSTs?

What is the difference you noticed?
Win 10 | Ableton Live 11 Suite | Reason 12 | i7 3770k @ 3.5 Ghz | 16 GB RAM | RME Babyface Pro | Akai MPC Live 2 & Akai Force | Roland System 8, MX1, TB3 | Dreadbox Typhon | Korg Minilogue XD
My question would have been 'what built-in bridger?'...
However how about "one of its legs is both the same" as being one of the better answers we're ever likely to get?.

It will scan everytime if not how does it know there is something new or something has changed (removed).EnochLight wrote: ↑11 Dec 2018Same. Though if I have a plugin that crashes, Reason will scan it again at startup until I disable it (or uninstall it).
Seems we have different behaviour here.. if a vst crashes or can't be loaded it is disabled and on next start won't be loaded or scanned.

Yeah, but I have noticed that some VSTs install both 32 and 64 bit versions and you were not given an option to ignore installing the 32 bit. But maybe it is unrelated.EnochLight wrote: ↑11 Dec 2018Unlikely. Many VST do that, but simply put - it doesn't matter. Reason ignores 32-bit VST installs.Boombastix wrote: ↑11 Dec 2018Yeah, but I have noticed that some VSTs install both 32 and 64 bit versions and you were not given an option to ignore installing the 32 bit. But maybe it is unrelated.

Maybe we should ask first: which version of Reason do you use?
Because in fact there were issues before:

Because in fact there were issues before:
Emphasis by me.Reason 10.0.3 Release Notes
- Added and updated Remote files for Akai controllers
- Improved error handling when scanning VST folders
- Improved error handling for VST screenshots
- Fixed a bug where Reason scanned 32-bit VST plugins on each startup
- Fixed a bug where Reason could crash when replacing certain devices
- If you have a Reason 30-day trial, you'll now be informed how many days are left of your trial and when it has expired

They should just add a toggleable option in my opinion or just a simple "scan" button for when you add new plugins.
I agree. There should be an option to switch the scanning to manual mode. They should make it so that the automatic scanning is still the default option, but if you don't want it you should be able to switch it off.
I think more people should try probiotics for IBS to get IBS under control.

Ahhh - yeah, I think those older versions still have issues. These were addressed in the latest 10.x.

Just searched for this topic as I thought the answer might be here without me starting a new thread.
Since starting to use VSTs, Reason takes longer and longer to open the more VSTs I have in my VST folder. Just wondering if that’s normal. I haven’t tried taking away my VST folder to see if it starts up any quicker by the way.

You might want to try that and see if you notice a difference, and let us know.

I’ll get back to you later on that.EnochLight wrote: ↑08 Jan 2019You might want to try that and see if you notice a difference, and let us know.
Just wondering though if I move the VST folder to another location I won’t have to reinstall anything when I move it back? I don’t think so...but a second opinion is always good to have .
