Who is going to take one for The Team?
Anybody tried running Reason on Mojave?
I'm to scared to update.

I did the upgrade last night and played a song (nothing else - so I cannot speak for audio interface issues while recording etc.) Did fine.

From what I've heard via Twitter, Props will do an announcement today, that Reason is working fine with latest update 10.2 (which incidentally is released today).

EDIT: And it's always a good option to do a TimeMachine backup *AND* a full clone of the internal disk to an external drive before upgrading. If I don't like the upgrade, I can now do a full rollback in less than an hour.

I have not. And now I feel the pain of owning VSTs and keeping track of compatibility for so many plugins.
Reason supposedly works ok, but I've gotten handfuls of emails from developers that their VSTs aren't working though...

Luckily the folks at Sweetwater are great about keeping track. Here is the compatibility list:

Code: Select all

There's some cool features like dark mode, but luckily nothing I own requires the update. So I of course will wait.

This is the first time I've updated my mac os where nothing breaks. I upgraded from Sierra. So far everything is good. Reason works, all my plugins appear to be working (I did it a few hours ago so we'll see), and all my hardware appears to be functioning like normal. I have this one Logic project that has a ton of plugins, and it loaded and played back flawlessly. I know for sure that my U-he, Waves, IK, Spectrasonics, Garritan, and VSL plugins are working. I'm going to give the likes of Arturia and NI a test tomorrow morning.

Really liking the dark theme. Desktop stacks is handy for a "save everything on the desktop" guy like me. There's also this amazing thing where you take a pic on your phone and it immediately appears on your computer. Pretty cool.

And my 2012 mac mini feels brand new again.

I scare the shit out to make an update. (but Reason 10.2)
Yesterday I spent one entire day to a full system backup with time machine ( just in case )
I'm still on High Sierra and I'm sticking to it for a while.
I own tons of Vst and applications .. Not just Reason

Went through the entire Mojave beta program since ver 1 without any issues whatsoever.
Reason is behaving brilliantly on Mojave :)

was having some trouble at first due to my sample rate being changed for some reason. After changing it to the correct one everything works well here on Mojave.

I can't seem to make it through 3 seconds of a song without getting the computer too slow message. This has literally never happened until I updated to 10.2 and Mojave. Gonna see if a restart fixes whatever is causing this.
You didn’t bother to restart.to begin with..?!
I understand that Mac OS doesn’t require as much tempering as Windows, but you still need to perform some basic housekeeping duties regardless

I took other measures first. I made an edit to that post which you should read.

Soundtoys seem to be working fine for me.
Arturia and NI synths work fine too. The Korg Gadget stuff looks ok. Tal UNO is good. Pianoteq passes the test. As does Sylenth. And UVI Workstation.
Even the old version of Alchemy is working great.

There might be something up with the Klanghelm stuff though. Still looking into it. Seems to make Reason snap crackle and pop.

I'd say that at least for my system, there are no showstoppers.

Out of curiosity, why upgrade to Mojavew? Why bother? Nothing to gain fars I know. OSX only adds bloat these days anyway and you can install whatever OSX you want even if it's a new machine.
Rule of thumb is always run one version behind. Stick to that.

Well there is a great looking dark mode and stacks is pretty nice for those of us who get a messy desktop during projects.

FWIW it is no longer referred to as "OSX," but instead "macOS"

Thanks. I'll try to remember that.

Actually, I'll probably keep saying OSX

What's the one on the phone called? They rebranded that too?

Well here's something different that I think I will find useful - when you quick-preview an audio file with the spacebar, you can now trim it. Works with videos too.

Also, there's another cool audio related thing called Voice Memos, that lets you simply and quickly record audio without messing with a DAW. You can also record audio on your phone with this, and it will sync with the desktop version and you'll have your phone recordings available on your desktop almost immediately.

Yea, this is a super useful app for iOS that's been the "go to" for songwriters for years, as it's a recorder you always have with you. It's part of the Marzipan project, bridging the gap between iOS apps and OS X apps, with more to come (currently Home, News, Stocks, and Voice Memos).

Good overview of new features including Marzipan here:

I use voice memos on my phone a lot. That is a pretty slick feature.
I usually stay a version behind too.
The new iOS update was pretty solid, so I was hoping Apple was doing more rigorous bug testing with Mojave.
I'm not in a hurry to update, was just hoping to find out what other users experience has been like.
Sounds pretty solid so far.

I updated my MBP without any issues. Still running Sierra on my iMac for now, since Reason 8 (Line6 Amps) still runs on it. Still have a few older songs I need to convert to using PodFarm VST (Well actually AU since there is no 64bit Vst 2.4 version of PodFarm for Mac) before I dump Sierra and Reason 8.
