How to make this sound?

What would you guys say the best way of creating the sound at the beginning and chorus would be? For the most part, I can create sounds somewhat easily, but when it comes to recreating a song that's on a record, I get stumped.

For those who don't know the track I'm talking about, it's this one:


It sounds like a layer of that sound is a sampled voice, and I can hear the tremolo but the rest of it is getting me.

That's a chopped and processed vocal sample. Sounds like it's using various sustained notes from the vocal, arranging different bits of the vocal sample to make a nice sounding lead melody. Also sounds like some pitch automation being used.
