whats's the trick to make scales and chords pop up in rack?

You drag it in from the Players menu, AFTER you have put an instrument in the rack. Just drop on the instrument and it attaches itself above.

Yeah must be on top of the device, not under. Also should work if you right click an instrument and select it from the menu.
