I was going out from that it didn’t really make a difference if it didn’t look good as long as it sounded good. Saying that I’ve had some pretty ugly nice sounding guitars in the past which I’m very glad I don’t have any more :).
Well, it's not the same - the guitar could have been ugly but you're not really staring at it for hours.
Conversely, if you're looking on a screen where things are very small and/or blurry, this can genuinely impact your workflow.
That's why when people ask here or on FB for a computer specs for Reason, I always tell them "get 1080p screen" - that is what Reason was designed for and probably will stay that way for some time.
I’ve got a 1080 so that’s probably why I’ve never noticed. And with regards to the ugly guitars...well yeah there have been times when I’ve sat staring at them thinking why the f***?! :)

For home studios, I can't (in good conscience) recommend anyone gets a 1080p screen these days. With 4k screens so cheap right now, it's almost a waste to buy 1080p IMHO. There are 50" 4k panels for just $249 USD!

For a mobile/laptop solution, I agree 1080p is easily the best for Reason, though.

I still run dual 1080p's for Reason, and it bugs the hell out of me at my OS stock resolution. I have to run my desktop at 125% magnification in order to see anything in the rack in detail.

Unless the studio is also your gaming setup :P 4k monitor with 1ms latency and 144hz is expensive!

I won't use Reason on anything smaller than a 4K screen, I like my 4 and 3/4 racks wide...

When editing multiple lanes at the same time the extra back and forth mouse movement I see in the Gif to select the track first is unnecessary. I should have the option to directly click on a midi note matching the color of the highlighted track (visual cue) and speed up things a bit.
IMHO.

Also is great they at least keep us posted about this !
Absolutely agree.

That's a clear cut commitment to an important performance release during this upgrade (payment) cycle.

And if you want to paint a note at this position?

Maybe a key modifier? Ctrl, shift or something...

As I said, if it's big enough then it's not an issue (unless your CPU can't handle it).

I've never been in software development (directly), but I can imagine the work that is going into this is pretty immense, since every change they are making to fix VST performance has to include the new features present in this 10.2 update - that hasn't even entered public beta testing yet. :? It's going to be a massive undertaking to make this happen in the next 4 months. :o

Seems like they’re definitely working hard to get this out in time. I just wonder if the rewrite will optimize CPU usage as a whole, or only VST-side processing. A GUI upgrade to enable 4K would likely require optimization of everything. I’d imagine that’s a lotta graphics to update every frame, especially using legacy code.

Looks like multi-lane editing allows for more than 2 tracks!

(yes, the beta is ON but I've still not received mine)

OK, NOW we can say "Please respect the beta rules", which includes reposting NDA breaking images here.

You don't have to do as it's shown in the gif actually. You can click any of the "non-active" notes to immediately switch to that clip with that note immediately selected. More on exactly how everything works once either you get in the beta or we get out of beta. Until then, though I know it might be tempting, I'd appreciate it if everyone with the beta kept information close to their chest. :ugeek:

Multi-lane editing is going to be huge. It is a big thing that cannot be underestimated.

Adaptive snap to grid "OMG"

Moving multiple faders without having to create individual automation lanes for each fader will be a huge time savior.

I think we all knew these features were coming. Better get it right the first time than to rush it out.

Yeah 'cause that would stop you editing the black / darkened notes (not that I think that will be included in the update as the gif doesn't show it) but one day hopefully as well as if you wanted to put a note there.

Yeah I'm not sure how good that adaptive grid is till I try it. Maybe it will be something that needs to be played with to see how mind blowing it can be. Hopefully so.

Here it is. Don't mind the "music" - it was quickly put together to demonstrate the feature :)

Awesome update!

In the future it would be so cool to have the multi-lane editing on audio too! or can you do this with this update?

That's great. The midi editor / piano roll looks very similar to Live doesn't it?

I'm most curious about multi-lane editing when it comes to seeing potential benefits to my own workflow, but all the improvements are obviously welcome.

Are those all the features they will be adding in this update? Or are there more improvements they didn't list in their blog?

MUH GHOST LANNNNEEEEESSS!!!!!

I guess figuring out that workaround, promoting it at every turn, and making the feature suggestion really paid off time.

Long live the props!
I would think you're right - the more attention something gets, the more obvious it becomes to the Props it's worth implementing. Thanks for being relentless on this one!

It's sometimes the simple little features that you soon realize get used the most and have the most impact on workflow, and I suspect this feature will become one of those features for me!
:)
Only saw the 10.2 announcement today, but also being strongly on Team Ghost Lanes, this is a Tier 1 addition, and from that GIF it looks spot on too, being able to switch between (at least) two lanes on the fly without exiting the clip. :D
