That's a scary list. I don't think anyone will blame you if you don't manage to include all 9 million feature requests in one version.

Somewhere I made a poll of the "most requested" features, it got quite a few hundred replies and the top 3 results were:

Hi-res gui, Updated Super-Combinator, Improved audio editing.

By the way, great job with the Europa VST and sample-loading feature update. I said some unkind things about Europa's limitations at first, but I was very happy to be forced to change my opinion.

Mattias, always good to see you lurking around!

Do you think some kind of voting mechanism would help bring attention to the most desired / important features in that list? I don't think being limited to voting for a single feature would be helpful, but perhaps if everyone was able to vote for their personal top 10 it would highlight the best ones to focus on. Just a thought!

Curious, is there currently a timeframe for Reason 11? Sorry if this has already been asked. I'm just not sure if I should get Reason 10 now or wait until 11...

Well if you manage any of this list it will be an improvement over the number of user requests included in Reason 10.

I've posted about this a few times and I'm sure others have done so as well;

Imagine a Softube Trident console, a "Slate" Neve console or "UAD" UAD console. I'm not talking skins here, but full-on modeled emulations which sound and behave like their HW channels/consoles....within reason, from within Reason.

API, Harrison, MCI, Neve, SSL(modeled, not just the skin., Rupert Neve, Focusrite, EMI, Cadac, Neotek, Oram, Amek, Trident, UAD, the list is long of the various consoles that could be modeled...Even boutique ones like Tree Audio, Wunderbar, Tonelux and Daking... The Master sections and the Mic pres, EQs and Dynamics, can all be modeled and added as a choice for the console and might even afford us the opportunity to mix and match channels or at least record with one console and mix with another.
I wonder if there would be a big enough market of us to make this profitable.

I Concur with this !!!

Looks like a nice TODO list for next week

Seriously: I hope implementing even half of these will not take as long as Half-Life 3.

Again, I think the problem with a voting mechanism is that we (the forum) probably aren't a very good/representative sample of Reason users in general.
But it's kind of Mattias to acknowledge our yammering. ;)

You see! They read it! :puf_bigsmile:
Not that this is a new thing.

To keep the ball rolling I have a few cheeky questions:

1. Which one/how many of these features exist already on a conceptual design level in a folder at PH HQ?

2. How much time do you think it would take to have all these features implemented?

Thanks for chiming in Mattias
Glad to see they take our suggestions into consideration :) Hope I can see some of these features really soon.

+ Sample drag n drop that finally works from reason browser to VST devices

Loops playing in sync in browser is a great suggestion. Something ableton does right since quite a few years now.

Can't really answer this to be honest. We do have plenty of designs tucked away in folders though! In terms of time I dare not even guess. Every feature needs functional design, visual design, development and testing so... a long time. ;)

There's no Reason 11 this year, as we said in a blog post a while back. Voting is an interesting thought but we'd only reach some people. That's why we mostly try to monitor most places (like ReasonTalk!) in addition to the user testing and interviews we're doing.

I realize this is a jab on Reason 10, but a granular synth and modern wavetable synth were pretty highly requested a while back. But if your expectation is that we won't do anything off that list in Reason 10.X or Reason 11, at least you'll be pleasantly surprised! ;)

I am happy for the new Synths in Reason 10 and waiting to be "pleasantly surprised" by the mysterious 10.X. :D

If it is possible please include an updated Ableton Link that supports Start/Stop Sync!

Sorry. It was meant as a gentle jab. Should have added a 😉. Both Grain and Europa are really great, and the new player SDK is a welcome addition, but the Rompers and samples were obvious filler. It was just strange you chose to add more synths when there are already more great synths available than anyone could want or use, but I guess it's because you didn't want to touch the main codebase so you could focus on more significant changes that we will see next year in 11. Anyway, I'm hoping for 4k support, a new combinator, full recycle integration and ghost clips, but I'm guessing those are all already in the bag. 🤣

Remote override with midi devices is such a hassle. It's fine if you ever use just one device, but toggling between different devices doesn't let you keep your remote override. And it needs to be redone with each new project.

Please, let there be a function for assigning midi knobs and faders for each device in GENERAL. All midi-presets are horrible at best anyway, why would anyone ever want SUSTAIN automatically mapped to knob 1? (Filter would be much more handy.)

Before anyone says "Hack the remote files", i know it's possible (or atleast it was, tutorials date back to 2006.) It's also possible to code an entirely new DAW, but really? :)

Perhaps this fits in the list Mattias wrote. Love the product anyway!

I saw it coming... ;)

Despite the title of this thread (with emphasis on REALLY) everyone threw in his/her personal preferences.

And Matthias finally distilled a list with 97 entries!

There are two possible interpretations:

1. Reason is that much far behind competition that ~100 features are necessary to be at least on par again.

2. (what I personally think): The daily use of Reason is as much diverse as its userbase. One says "I don't care about Midi, I need an audio recording tool for my band" while others state "Who cares about audio? All I need is a sophisticated midi editor and many virtual instruments".

Not an easy task for the Props to reconcile them all. :)

It is because Reason is simply behind the other DAWs. Instead of doing all these missing features (they had years and years of time to do these), all they keep doing, is adding really old samples and putting them in a sampler and then selling them "biggest update ever". Doing pointless RE's, or they keep spamming you with hundreds of emails, instead of doing something useful for the core program.

I really like Reason, and I really wanted to love it, but I have lost my faith on this company after being only year and half of their customer. I don't understand their priorities at all or aggressive email spamming. They want new customers, but they don't do anything to get them, or keep them. People don't need music box or kalimba sounds or new synths, what they need is features to do music. If you need synths and sounds, there is open VST world for that. Or the RE developers. Sometimes I wonder that do the developers actually use their program to do the music.

I remember once I bought Zynewave Podium. I liked it and asked if the developer could add one small thing. That one small thing was able to select, move, add and delete notes with one tool so I don't have to change the tool all the time. It already had 3/4 of those, so he only needed to add one thing to make it perfect. He refused. He didn't like the idea. Right. Now the Podium is pretty much dead.

There is a similar story in FL side too. I have owned it almost 10 years now. Used to love it, but developer (GOL) arrogant attitude made me and many, many others to change the DAW.

In Reason side. Personally, have requested features, mainly two simple things. Biggest issue is automatically returning playing cursor - few lines of code, could be done in few hours. Not yet seen it after 1.5 years. And what I have read, it has been requested many, many times over the years(!). Doesn't look good at all.

Midi chase, don't see it coming either.

Everything is so small in Reason. Can't zoom close enough. Hard to do timewarping or anything when you cant zoom or see what you do. All the GUI updates would require tons of work, overal overhault to Vector graphics. A lot of work. So many small simple things are still missing..

So, I sold my Reason 10 license away. Again. That was third time. I like Reason that much that I have bought and sold the full Reason 10 license three times, but I simply can't working on it. It miss too much features. It is nice to play around, get the idea flow but when it comes to build the whole song, it is nightmare.

I still keep looking here and waiting to see new updates. Like today. It was nice to see that Mattias is reading this thread and have collected all the ideas. That is long list and I don't expect to see them all in Reason 11, but if they add even 30-40% to Reason 11, that is a good start. Or even some to Reason 10.5.

I won't buy Reason again, until I see at least these:
-Automatically returning playing cursor
-Midichase
-Updated "Vector" graphics, endless zoom like Live has with 60fps GUI refresh rate.
-Better automation. Perhaps similar to FL which have best automation. Two points and tension line between to those to adjust the curve. It would be also nice to see to curve value in pop up window or somewhere.

All other small things are not so vital yet. And yes, this is just my opinion. I also have a feeling that I don't see these ever in Reason :)

I've been using Reason since ver. 1.
It's really come a long way.
As Madmac pointed out above, what one person would call the "Perfect DAW" might be totally unsuitable for another person's needs.
I think it's pretty legit to see Mattias pop in on a thread like this. It's nice to know that someone is listening.
Reason is still a really powerful program. I like it. I'm working on a new project and having a good time with it, so I'm glad I have it. It's way better than working in Logic. That's just, like, my opinion though.

It may be a long and "scary" list, but let's consider why that is?

Because Props haven't implemented ~90% of the requested user features and the list keeps on growing...

(Also, some of the requested features are quite simple to develop and test; making the list less scary as it seems)

Makke's post above is just about perfect. I don't need another Refill in a Sampler form. I want CORE software FEATURES. I understand that Props wants to make money and they've got wages to pay, but I think customer satisfaction should be way up there, almost on the top of their priorities. It does not feel that way and has not felt like it in a long while.

I feel like I'm repeating myself every six months so this is my last post EVER complaining about Propellerheads. But I sure hope your company gets it shit together someday in the near future. I know I've done my part in supporting you financially (Record, Balance [another cool looking hardware with shit drivers and support, great only for BSODing any Windows], Reason and its many, many PAID updates, Refills and too many Rack Extensions).

Check out Reaper's changelog and you can see how a proper development should be done. They've added features and crushed bugs like I've never seen before. And they've done this constantly over the years.

Have a nice day, y'all!

All of those features are just quality of life stuff.. Nothing that stops me from making music. Don't forget why Reason appealed to us in the first place! I understand the importance of many of the requested features, but don't see why that is stopping people from making music and having fun in the process.

I must admit, it took a while to adjust from FL studio to Reason. I did miss some features here and there, but at the end of the day it was nothing I couldn't work around easily and quickly once I understand the flow of the program.

It's true that the list is so long mainly because Propellerhead have pretty much ignored feature requests for years. Apart from 'Can we have some ethnic music Romplers please?'

At least now we have a list that we know Propellerhead have, and we know they have at least five more months before there is any hope of v11, so we can see exactly how much they are listening. I'm betting on 4k support - I don't think there is any way they could release another version without it - some minor performance improvements for VSTs and a few other smaller features, along with a Bulgarian nose flute Romplers and a Lithuanian nipple orchestra rompler (that both have suspiciously similar UI).

- In-App notification system that lets you know every time PH tweet/retweet something. If you press "like" on a notification you'll be awarded with a point, that if you have 10 000 points, can be redeemed for a 808-based sample pack.
- Slate-endorsed harmonic distortion module with exclusive vintage flavour for the SSL mixer.
- AI helper that'll turn your arrangement into a radio-ready format and will apply risers and downers if you forgot to place them.
- Cinematic sample library featuring vast amounts of baby elephant screams and hard surfaces being hit with hammers.
- Vocaloid-style instrument exclusively for dancehall. Voice modeled on middle-aged, alcoholic white man going through a mid-life crisis.
- 4 new colours for channels.

Not urgent, but these are just some of the things needed I wish they'd see.

I'm pleased as punch with Reason, but if I have some first world probs with it, then...

1. Notes To Track for all RE's. I don't presume to know the RE SDK, but why this hasn't been implemented is God's own private mystery. I know, the Players are a workaround, but other than the dual arp, I don't personally touch em. Notes To Track would make SO many RE's better.
2. The cold hard death to IDT sample RE's. In a world with the NNXT and a cornucopia of VST samplers, these RE's are entirely redundant. Most of these RE's are better off as Refill anyways, and any update to the Refill packer could and should include copy protection and the ability to pack larger sample libraries.
3. Speaking of which- an updated Sampler. No one is creating for the NNXT anymore, Kontakt holds the market, we need an update.
4. Updated Combi. This has been said.

First world problems...I don't have many.
