We just released a new version of rsTouch (2.9.2) to match Propellerhead’s Reason 10.1 update. Propellerhead’s latest REs, including the Drum Sequencer Player, now have built-in custom control panels; rsTouch now offers custom support for 132 Reason devices, Rack Extensions, VST's and Players. The release also updates a couple of other Rack Extensions.

New Propellerhead Devices:
  • Layers, Wave Edition
  • Drum Sequencer
Updated/Enhanced Rack Extensions
  • Propellerhead Layers
  • Blamsoft F16
Other Reason 10.1 improvements, like the addition of user samples to Europa, were already correctly handled by rsTouch.

A few words about Drum Sequencer support. Many of you may be surprised to discover that you cannot edit the sequencer from rsTouch. This is a limitation of the Drum Sequencer Player’s Remote support. It is my understanding that this is not an oversight by Propellerhead but is a result of how Drum Sequencer had to be built. Disappointing to be sure. So Redrum is still Propellerhead’s drum sequencer weapon of choice if you want hands on sequencer control. Check out rsTouch’s Redrum support if you have not already (or have forgotten about it).

The are also a few other issues with Drum Sequencer’s Remote support. The most troublesome is how the RUN button behaves. This has been discussed in other threads, and it affects not only control surfaces, but also Combinators and automation. rsTouch has a work around for this so that you can properly start and stop the sequencer from rsTouch but rsTouch’s RUN button does not show whether the sequencer is running; you will have to use your ears for that ;-)

This release requires new Reason support files (codec and maps) that must be installed. The most recent rsTouch support files are available from rsTouch Codec Installer. Download the installer to your Mac or PC, quit Reason (if it is running), then run the installer. If you do not update the support files on your computer then rsTouch will show an error.

rsTouch Pro offers full control of Reason’s Mixer and transport functions. Record and mix songs, and make sound setting and level adjustments easily with large, multi-touch, color-coded rotaries and faders.  Edit send effects, insert parameters, and EQ settings, as well as adjust channel, pan and dynamics levels.  A dedicated Master screen allows full adjustments of Reason's Main Mixer Master section.  The Device page provides a gateway to controlling 132 Reason instruments, effects, Rack Extensions and VSTs, offering customized screens optimized for iPad use. A Performance page provides convenient keyboard, drum pad layouts, and 8 x 8 pad grid to play and record Reason synths and drum machines, or a page of 34 freely assignable fader, rotaries, and buttons that can be used to provide additional customized hands-on control.

If you have any trouble with the update, or uncover what you believe is a bug, please reach out to us at our support email (support AT delora.com). There is also a convenient "contact support" feature in rsTouch that you can use.

If you have any general questions or comments I would be happy to answer them in this thread.

Where's a good place to discuss new feature ideas and general feedback?

We love getting feedback, and are always open to hear how we can improve usability and utility. We maintain an active list of "product improvements" that we review when we plan each release.

I'd suggest just using Email [ support at delora dot com ] as I really hate to impose on ReasonTalk with discussions that are probably best done elsewhere. However, if you think the subject matter is of general interest, and worthy of a ReasonTalk thread, then by all means do it here. I'm sure the mods will let us know if we over extend our welcome.

By the way, we do not use Twitter for any "conversations". We only use Twitter as a "broadcast only" medium so that we can notify interested users of things like updates (especially codec updates!), and similar information. As such its a very low bandwidth Twitter feed.

Regarding any discussion about features or improvements please keep in mind though that any product idea or improvement submitted to Delora Software through email, here, or any other communication, becomes the property of Harmony Systems Inc. This means that if we develop your idea or an idea similar to yours, you will not be compensated and it also means that we can use the idea for any purpose. So only disclose to us if those terms are acceptable.

Thanks Douglas, I'll get in touch via email soon. Unless any RSTouchers (you can trademark that 🤣) want to spark a discussion on what they'd like to see.
