Yeah I could say the complete opposite. Going to a Mac from Windows is a total nightmare. The Mac interface is completely horrible not to mention their buggy updates. How many times have I heard about user problems? Too many to count. And they will continue. Never have I had a problem with and Reason in Windows 10, a breath of fresh air buddy.mooseharris wrote: ↑13 Apr 2018I have it on one of my kids' laptops. Reason 10 problems on High Sierra 10.13.4?
Reason+RME+Windows10 = Heaven.
As a windows 10 user I am a bit surprised to read what's going on on your sides. I got the email from Props. I feel like I got an email like this before (for Mac users). At the end of the day, I don't care much about Windows 10. I trash stuff, I undelete stuff, I copy stuff, etc. That's it really. My interface is the tool I am looking at all day, not Windows 10. Learning Wifi Midi not working on W10 is sad, so nothing is perfect. If you are proud to own a Mac use a Mac. You don't need to switch.
I care about myself, not big corporations, no brand royalty. Whatever the tools, OS...
Good luck!

DAMN!
I updated my Mac a few days ago ... and I did not know why everything went wrong when i'm using a buffer size between 128 and 512.
I put the buffer in 2048 and I can record without freezes and op lattency.
we need an emergency update
i'm on Reason 9.5.

Reason performance issues with macOS High Sierra 10.13.4
2018-04-12
It has come to our attention that the latest macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 update affects the Reason performance negatively. Currently, we do not recommend you to update your macOS High Sierra to 10.13.4 if you rely on using Reason.
We’re on it and hope to get to the bottom of this as soon as possible.
If you have already updated to macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 and are experiencing performance issues, try deactivating the “Use hyper-threading audio rendering” function in Preferences – the General tab. This might improve the performance in some cases.
If you haven’t yet updated to macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 but have the “Install macOS updates” function active in the App Store app on your computer, you might want to disable this:
Select “App Store” from the Apple menu > System Preferences.
Click the App Store control panel.
Deselect the “Install macOS updates” function.

So true. I switched to Mac for a music production machine especially for Reason. Plain Sierra working fine so far. I do really like the Mac no question. Nothing against windows. I still use windows too. Win10? I don’t know... I’m not overly thrilled with it, but it works so... whatever. If I went PC, I wanted to do my own build. Might have been too lazy. I guess that’s one reason I finally went Mac.bxbrkrz wrote: ↑13 Apr 2018

I started with iMac with Sierra. But high Sierra? My instinct was to wait (as bossy as Mac tends to be: it’s always “pick pick pick- upgrade now”). I guess these are now high Sierra x updates. High Sierra was a whole file system reconfiguration I think, and that made me a bit nervous. Even so, props said compatible. And I think it does work for people.
Still didn’t upgrade. Now this. I’d like to see all the bugs worked out first or most anyway. Till then I guess I’ll stay in the Stone Age with plain Sierra. It’s just always the way with software and operating systems, be it pc or Mac, ain’t it?
My quote for the day, (which can apply to OS and software, and maybe also to me, trying to figure out Mastering) :
Win10 Pro here. I've waited a year before updating to the big update. Let all the others be the lab rats. No automatic trust from me.brand wrote: ↑13 Apr 2018So true. I don't know whether this was due to Apple carelessly breaking an API without warning, or Propellerhead doing something in a hacky, non-standard way, but whatever the reason and whichever party should've seen this coming (maybe both?), I was really hoping we were beyond this sort of thing by now.
It’s only been buggy as of recently when they switched focus to iOS. The older Mac OS versions with cat names (Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard) were super stable. Windows 10 is good but it’s not as stable and well engineered as Mac OS.Jmax wrote: ↑13 Apr 2018Yeah I could say the complete opposite. Going to a Mac from Windows is a total nightmare. Apple tend to break things. Usually when they introduce new features like the new external GPU support. And now you get a warning window whenever you open any 32 bit application, telling you that these apps are no longer supported.fieldframe wrote: ↑13 Apr 2018I don't know whether this was due to Apple carelessly breaking an API without warning, or Propellerhead doing something in a hacky, non-standard way, but whatever the reason and whichever party should've seen this coming (maybe both?), I was really hoping we were beyond this sort of thing by now.

Sometimes, Apple breaks things too quickly, like with USB-A: 2016 was way too early to go USB-C only on professional laptops. For 32-bit software, though, they've gone really slowly: The last 32-bit Macs were produced in 2007. Software makers have literally had over a decade to get their software running in 64 bit.miscend wrote: ↑13 Apr 2018Apple tend to break things. I think it's likely that we'll see an update from Apple that fixes whatever they broke, especially if this is affecting other DAWs, or even other types fo software.
Apple have made it more difficult for software to deviate from the rules of its APIs, and although it's possible that Props were doing something in an odd way not supported by OS X, it's more likely that there is an issue on Apple's side. They have a decent-fish track record of releasing subsequent updates that correct the occasional mistakes they make in previous updates.

Indeed, Reason is not the only DAW that is affected by the quirks that Mac OS 10.13.4 contains. MOTU is warning their customers officially (see the Downloads section on their homepage) not to install 10.13.4 because of incompatibilities with Digital Performer 9.5.1. that weren’t there prior to 10.13.4. I’m sure that Apple will deliver a remedy for that within the next 3 to 5 days because they have too.
Ahem...
First of all: I didn't have any issues so far with Reason under 10.13.4 - none of the "freezes" mentioned above.
However, since I currently alienate from Reason (lack of progress in development, the sellout of RE's not promising any bright future), I thought of reverting back to Logic (being a >10 years Logic user before switching to Reason). To get an idea of the current UI and layout, I started Garageband and was VERY pleased (needless to list the details).
Well, until I opened the Midi editor... then the hassle started. Beachballs, frozen GUI, waiting >10 Seconds before having any chance to click the next button, rendering the whole App useless.
There's something very broken in 10.13.4.

This has resolved the problem for me...If you have already updated to macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 and are experiencing performance issues, try deactivating the “Use hyper-threading audio rendering” function in Preferences – the General tab. This might improve the performance in some cases.
I always use Carbon Copy Cloner & clone the disk to an external drive before I apply any OS updates. This way I can roll back in about 30 mins. It's a fairly cheap solution (external HDs are quite cheap nowadays) & very user friendly.
had this with sierra and all updates
high sierra and all updates
mountain lion works ,but r10 overloads the system at times... tried every fix mentioned but removing battery... props denied a problem until this update... screw mac seems to be4 a motto
9.2 works flawlessly yet they deny any change in performance... late 2012 mac book pro 16 gig ram... I see the degredation as I no longer have near unlimited tracks and racks

Coming up to a month since the problems started and still no update from Propellerheads.
I do actually need hyperthreaded audio anyway? What the hell does it do?

Still having problems, esp. with recording integrity (blips instead of tones....). Any updates yet, Propellerheads?
which helps a bit but does not stop the issue from occurring after adding a few re's and tracks... the issue becomes slightly less annoying and that is about all it does... working in low rez mode and turning that function off is not what I consider a fix... hard enough to read the racks with my poor eyes as it is... this occurs in mountain lion, sierra, and even worse in high sierra... I have 3 versions of reason on my drive to get around some bottlenecks... but that should not be needed either... without a doubt the issue came when vst were added in 9.5.... sometimes I have to use 9.2... but would prefer to use 10 with the new features... I have all vst turned off as well,,, note this issue was reported at xmas time to the props... they tried to tell me there was no issue at all... then only admitted a vst issue,,, I was so disgusted I wanted a refund with 10... but it took me one month of trouble shooting and system change experiments to narrow down the issue... refund period was over... one month is all you get... and support was of little help while I pulled my hair out troubleshooting something that should have just worked... that is what beta tests are for ... right? Used reason since 2.5 and never had any issues until now... I am getting tired of bouncing tracks just to make some racks work... version 7 was rock solid... did not try 8. .....9.2 works well ... 9.5 and 10 not so well

I just got an update from Apple (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201222) ~1G.0
Download/Installed.
I tried to launch latest version of Reason.
And just 'play' the songs that could not play anymore since High Sierra 10.13.4
- I can notice, it's almost fine as before (with turning ON Hyper-threading) at least the songs can be played.
- I can still feel a latency on the user interface (not smooth at all) and iMac fans speed up more than usually.
Time to sleep, I will try to make more tests and reports tomorrow.
