Problem chopping audio.

I just upgraded reason and discovered what I thought was a glitsch may be a lack of understandiong on my part. I have a bar of music that I want to slice on the one and four. If I use shift it will highlight all the beat markers in between and than if I split slices I will have numersous peices I dont want that. So I use control and just highlight the markers at the begining and end. Then I use the option split and slices...Nothing happens. If I chop with the razor than undo it and than split at slices it works. I thought this was a reason 7 glitch so I put up with it. Now it still does it. What am I doing wrong?
