Hi everyone - I'm new on here so good to be joining the community.

I've just tried to upgrade from Essentials 1 to the full version and my Propellerhead account is telling me the upgrade is not available on my account! I don't have a full version of Reason and never have had

Given that the deal states that you can upgrade from Essentials and doesn't specify any exclusions I can't see why my upgrade won't be accepted

Any ideas?

Cheers

If you have Essentials because you bought Balance (or got it with Balance), then you're excluded. Apparently Balance owners were offered a specific upgrade path (which may or may not still be available). I'd reach out to support, though.

Also, welcome to Reasontalk!

Thanks very much for the responses - yes it is a serial that was included in Balance so that may be the problem - though it doesn't mention any exclusions as far as I can see on the website - or am I missing something? I got a message into support on Thursday night but no response yet - I assume they may have a few queries on this one!

If you own Balance with Reason Essentials, then your upgrade is $129 USD for full Reason. I guess a $30 difference isn’t terrible. Second from top:

Mmm but they have advertised it at $99 on that original without stating any exceptions so that seems a bit dodgy to me. I'll argue it out with support but thanks for the help

Yeah, it's worth pointing that out to support - there really should be a disclaimer on there if they're forcing Balance/Essential owners to go the $129 route. That said, at the end of the day, you'd still be getting a full version of Reason for just $129, which is still an incredible deal IMHO. Anyway, good luck - let us know how it pans out!

I'm torn. I don't know if I want to pay full price before March 14th to get the instruments that they are including in the full purchase, piano, drums etc, or if i should go out buy an essentials version and then upgrade it.

You can demo the Layers RE in Reason while in demo mode and see for yourself if it's something you'd use. Frankly, the Reason Pianos refill is made partially moot since you get Radical Pianos RE included in version 10 (though again - I'd demo the RE first and see if you like it). The other two refills (bass and drums) may or may not be useful to you.

The Essentials/Adapted/Limited upgrade is a steal, anyway you slice it, though.

I'm still waiting for a reply from support on my issue above but could someone advise me if you need to have Essentials / Limited installed to do the upgrade or does it do a full Reason installation including all soundbanks?

No, you won’t need Essentials or Limited actually installed. The full version installer is completely separate, and gives you the options of downloading the factory soindbanks and additional content. You’ll need to authorize your computer for offline use, though, unless you want to have to keep logging in to your account every time you use it. Offline authorization requires that you install Codemeter (a virtual dongle), or use an Ignition Key or Balance.

Wow. Just bought Essentials three weeks ago (first-ever foray into Reason after switching to Windows from Mac/Logic), been loving it and was already planning to upgrade in the near future. Must've pleased the right God in some previous life!

Thanks for the warm welcome and I am sure I will be asking plenty of daft questions. Been watching a couple of tutorial videos to start off with. I've managed to get audio & midi input from my Roland A800 working ok so that's a good start :-)

Thanks!!! I'm going crazy with all the new devices. Best $99 I've ever spent! And, as far as workflow goes, it's changed my life. Long live Propellerhead!

I hear an 80s song in my head, don't know if it's real, but goes something like..."what will you think about me, after the puppy love wears off...lalalala".
