OK, cards on the table time. How many of the following plugins (RE & VST) do you currently own? With FX, just count dedicated units rather than onboard synth effects

1. Synths and sample-based instruments like mellotrons, pianos etc
2. Drum machines
3. Filters
4. Compressors/limiters
5. Delays/echos
6. Reverbs
7. Distortion units
8. Amp sims
9. Tape emulations
10. Phasers
11. Flangers
12. Chorus
13. EQs
14. Harmonic exciters
15. Any other miscellaneous weird shit (pitch shifters, resonators, ring mods etc)

Wonder why you didn't start yourself revealing your number, but anyway - here we go. Not as much as I feared in the first place:

1. Synths and sample-based instruments like mellotrons, pianos etc: 13
2. Drum machines: 1
3. Filters: 3
4. Compressors/limiters: 8
5. Delays/echos: 1
6. Reverbs: 1
7. Distortion units 2
8. Amp sims: NONE
9. Tape emulations: NONE
10. Phasers: 1
11. Flangers: 1
12. Chorus: 1
13. EQs: 5
14. Harmonic exciters: NONE
15. Any other miscellaneous weird shit (pitch shifters, resonators, ring mods etc): ~5

That's pretty much everything. For sure not the top rank of "collectors".

Happy New Year!

Because my number is embarrassingly large. I'm interested to see if others have GAS as bad as I do, might make me feel better about my "condition"

Synths and sample-based instruments like mellotrons, pianos etc - 15
Filters - 6
Compressors/limiters - 7 (Just added the KHs Comp, I mean c'mon, it's 9€ so why not :puf_bigsmile: )
Delays/echos - 6
Reverbs - 4
Distortion units - 3
Phasers 4
Flangers - 2
Chorus - 3

Just be careful with your analysis as some of these might be bundled as part of the rigs. A person having spent $400 ($200 x 2 rigs) is likely to have somewhere around 40-45 of these.

And another aspect: my list is roughly 50:50 RE and VST - and with one exception, all VST's are hand-picked freeware. All of my RE's are from sales. So I didn't spend lots of money. I rather buy hardware.

Err... what does GAS stand for? I'm asking for a friend, you understand. I already know.

Same here. I acquired another DAW, 3 DAW updates/upgrades, more Kontakt libraries, VSTs and REs. I seem to be a sucker for loop bundles. I haven't auditioned most of what I have. The best deal was the Samplitude Pro bundle which came with Soundforge and Spectral Layers. I even got some real monitors which are costing me $3 a month via Sweetwater.
I'm not sure I got better at avoiding deals this holiday season.

Black Friday will be the death of us all (or at least the death of our bank accounts). Seriously, the whole "inflated prices that become reasonable for a few precious weeks out of the year" thing is the most dastardly genius idea ever conceived.
