sequencer midi key lights?

I'm not new to this....but today this simple yet irksome 'qwerk' made me wonder why. So 2 part question.

If click on the midi piano roll keys in the sequencer the key lights up and the same for clicking on the note.....
but why doesn't it light up when the note is played from a midi keyboard?
Like, is this simply an oversight or is there good reason for this decision?

and oddly when I click on the note there is huge delay until the respective key illuminates. seems like this should happen with zero delay. why the delay?
