Hey, can any of you lot figure out what's actually happening inthe Eeerie setting on the Audiomatic Retro Transformer?
Can anyone think of how you'd build it from scratch?
I'd like to be able to tweak more of it but as it's one of those new fangled props toys you can't really.

Thanks in advance

I thougt it was some kind of impulse response... They're not usually very tweakable in the first place, but yeah why don't you try and record a sweep through it and get the file into the rv7000mkII and see what can be done there?
Cheers!

As far as I can tell there's some kind of resonance player in there not just a IR. The manual refers to it as a Waterphone effect but it's playable and variable. I'm wondering if it's just over laying pitched samples or what.

I'm guessing, but I'd say it's a filtered, resonated, and reverberated signal path or similar. While this is based on some guesswork, it's also based on familiarity with the tools available for building the original ART Patches. If the author of this preset is reading this, maybe they'd like to chime in (I don't know who is responsible for this particular patch, or I'd ask them specifically).

Yeah, something like that.
I'm gonna have a muck around and see what I can produce. I need some new processing rigs!

I just noticed there's also some pitch modulation.
Try running a sine wave through it and you should hear what I'm talking about - but since it's a resonator, be aware different frequencies will react differently (watch your levels!). Try using a chorus for a slight pitch mod effect and use a sine wave to match the effect of ART.

Also, run white noise through it and you'll get a general idea which frequencies/ranges are resonating. This won't do a perfect job of identifying all the resonate frequencies, but it will give you a good start. Could be with a handful of Pulverizers set to Comb with high resonance you can get close to this (don't forget to filter the signal as well).

That's all I got for now…

Playable and variable sounds pretty close to a waterphone. A waterphone is an actual instrument after all. I’ve used one before for sound design, their really interesting and give a very eerie sounds.
