We all know that the PH-Shop has some limitations, eg. you can only sort by date, name and developer, but not by price or ranking.
I have no idea when PH will change this, so perhaps the following could be an approach to circumvent these limitations:

1) Use a webcrawler and a search engine for crawling/indexing the PH-Shop.
2) Modify the search-index: add Index-Fields for price, ranking, etc.
3) Use these index-fields as navigators (sometimes also called facets or refiners, they restrict the search-results, eg. "Show only products that are free") and/or for sorting.
4) Build a search-interface based on the index, use the custom index-fields in html-controls (e.g. dropdown for sorting/links to the left of the search results for "navigating/refining").

Apache Solr Search Server (based on the Lucene-Search-Engine) could be used this and its free! (http://lucene.apache.org/solr/l)

The only thing that is required and not for free is the webspace, the application must run on a server that supports JAVA.
So is there anyone out there who is interested in participating or anyone that could host such an application on a server?

One important addition: I'm a very busy guy with lots of ideas, so it could take some time until the application goes live...
