some free lexicon IR's
Exactly. Sound in a real room will have nearly an infinite number of little peeks, and nulls where reflections build up or cancel. That's impossible to duplicate algorithmically, so reverb designers came up with the idea to slightly move the distance to the walls as a sound progresses through the effect. This is yields a pretty good simulation of a real room. But sending an impulse through a reverb will only capture a part of that modulation, especially reverbs that have random modulation.normen wrote:Lexicon IRs are kind of pointless because the magic of most Lexicon presets comes from the fact that they dynamically change the reflection times (modulation parameter), an IR can't capture that.
While an IR of an actual space is still only a snapshot, it does record much of that interaction between reflections.
So an IR of a real room is good. An IR of a reverb trying to simulate a room isn't so good.
Let's try to keep all IR links to the sticky thread so we don't flood the first page. That said, any and all links are appreciated.
