Reason as a DJ tool, pros and cons

Never tried this. Could something be done with slice-markers & time stretching? Thinking about it it might be clunky at best without the kind of tools available in Live.

Cons. I see no possible way to do beat matching between two tracks.

id seriously consider forgetting all about this for now.
ive found a way to live varispeed and no not Neptune or anything else but its just not too desirable but better than anything else so far.
but to get beat matching nope I cannot suss it to me its not possible.
I found the best way to do it is run ya dj program via time sync if it accepts it and rout live audio to reason but its not great . best making ya tracks and using the dj program for what its meant to be used for with ya dj controller much simpler and less headaches and will allways do a better job than anything you ever gonna be getting using reason any time soon .

you can beat match using the zoom and by stretching but yhea pitch LOL

I did a few sets years ago with reason using the above method, but I worked out a keyboard override that made beat matching really easy. It was a linking a key to reset the track to the start while still playing so I would tap that key in time with the track then let the song play and it worked really well

James Bernard did a whole piece on this, proving that it was possible, but required you to really stay on top of things, like when a DJ used two turntables without a device to match beats automatically. You actually had to listen to music and categorize a set by beats per minute, then employ a pitch knob or drag/speed up one of the turntables to get them in sync. Sounds simple, but when you have to keep your eyes on your speakers (to make sure no one stole them) the level of difficulty jumps a few levels. Shout out to MirEko for embedding the video.

nice video but at this point I just download virtual dj 8 for free or pay for it to use a controller .
I mean everything is possible and if it works for you then why not but it's just not a very cllassic way to mix .

just get this for free charly m8 you can use time coded vinyl etc etc too if ya wanna flex real decks and not got a controller or flex both pretty flexible software this.

@dannyF , yep you right on that but if not going classic then why doing the dj with tracks when going all virtual modular on a live set so cool
@submonster , hey I was almost shure I had that Mixxx from the Windows app store but now I can't find it so maybe it was another soft LOL ,
it's got nice feature and this one got controllers working for free and that is way cool .

@ the others , i aint trying to diss those using reason to mix BTW but it's just not the soft I would use for this because when I mix it's hard to focus already with normal dj soft's even if stuff like mixmister are excellent .

I love reason as an effects module. Using a virtual audio router (ASIO link by O deus audio!! check it out), I route Mixxx into reason and control it with an m-audio axiom 49 and my numark mixtrack pro. I have four Echo's in trigger mode, a mic that can fade between dry (+ high passed and compressed) mode and vocoder mode, and a couple buffres. I'm no good, but I have a blast

It's possible to mix between tracks in the sequencer using either pre-recorded automation clips that adjust bpm to the native speed of the upcoming song or by adjusting bpm on the fly to match. Either way, all songs must be in audio clips in the timeline, and there's only so much room there before your ram will get eaten.

I have been working hard on ways to do this, but I've almost entirely thrown out the idea of doing anything like Traktor and focused more on sample based finger drumming approaches.
