Hi all,

I'm putting together an A/V set and I'm not sure how to set this up.

My plan would ideally be to play the video, possibly with some kind of bass track that I can improvise over, and a Reason session off of my Macbook all at once. However, I'm not sure how to set up a media player, or indeed which media player, so that it will run uninterrupted in the background or perhaps floating in a small window and synchronized with Reason.

Any advice here would be greatly appreciated as always.

Well there are several possibilities.
First there's ReSync and ReasonSync they are programs designed to have a video clip run alongside Reason. All these programs do is play the video in sync with Reason. The disadvantage with ReasonSync is that it only takes up to 15 minutes of video, which is a shame really, but afaik a technical limitation for the loophole they exploit (I have not used ReSync, so can't comment on this much).
Then there's oter DAWs to use in Rewire. Reaper is cheap, but I personally never clicked with it really. Then of course Garage Band, which is relatively easy to setup.
Other DAWs can import and playback much longer videos, but I'd guess a live setup with ReWire going on would be too much a stability risk, or rather too many factors to consider, when having to iron out a problem on stage.
And then there's iTunes VLC and the likes, which can't be synced to Reason afaik.
So if your video is less than 15 minutes I'd go with ReasonSync, as it's pretty much hassle free, once set up and is not more than a floating window with a video in sync with Reason.
Cheers!

Hmmm...

Well, I'm in the middle of sculpting to a 32min video using ReasonSync and its playing fine. Not sure where you got the 15min limitation idea from.

It's not a live thing though. You're stuck with the borders on the playback window, etc. Otherwise I'd use it, float it over the top. Done.

Unless anyone know's how to get rid of the border?...

Think ReSync can play borderless but I can't ever get it to work.

Also, I can sync it manually. Hit play on both. They can be a few tics out, its not that exact.
