Hi all!
If you've got good and trained ears, then you will perhaps not benefit from this tip.
But if you often find yourself struggling with clashing sounds, and have a time consuming process of finding and fixing your sounds so they don't clash with each other frequency wise, like me, then read on:-)
Scenario: You have a perfect lead sound, or vocals, or whatever, that is supposed to shine through the mix at any time. And now you want to find a pad sound that doesn't blend the lead.
1. Find the 2 or 3 most dominant frequency bands for that lead sound.
2. Create an eq that fully suppresses those 2-3 bands, and chain it to a pad device.
3.record a clip with only pad notes and play it in a loop.
4. Enter browsing mode for the pad device and start searching for a sound you like.
If a pad sound is too low in volume, then its not compatible with the lead.
If a pad sound sounds shit, then its not compatible with the lead.
R 8 Tip for speeding up the search for sounds compatible in current rack.
