Wow, there are 192 synths listed on the Reason website, totaling over $10,000. And I thought my 20 synths was a lot.

I compose every day and I have only used 50% of my current synth sounds.

That's amazing lol. It's good to feel that no matter how much I use Reason I still only use a percentage of it :)

I'd be impressed if you only had 10 synths and only used half.

With REs and VSTs my list is quite long in Reason.

The good news is that means the average price is $5.20 per synth, so that’s only just over $100 for those 20 synths. On average. (YYMV) ;)

There are 288 instruments listed in the Reason shop, in addition to the built-in ones.

How do you get 192, did you count the ones including the word "synth"? Did you include the built-in instruments?

Everything over five counts as a really really big setup for me. I rather stick to five and learn them ;)

I’m curious how you choose which synth you’re going to use when you own so much synths ?

I can say I use Subtractor, Thor, Europa, Omnisphere, Pigments, and I have all of Arturia and the Korg ones as well as a bunch of others but if I hear a synth patch and want to create it I go for Thor or Europa first. Malström - I wish I used it more. I have been making some of the worlds first presets for Pigments and Malström. I also programmed for some other vendors and synths but there are so very many. We are spoiled yet I would love many as software. I would love a D-50 and a Kawai K4. Was suprised to see arturias CZ render my CZ-5000 patches without a single error. Imagine a K2000 as software. I'd love 1080 / 5080 / Integra too but I'm not such a big fan of Roland Cloud. There is a lot of overlap now. So many JPs out there. Mercury JP6 has a very sexy gui. My Korg T3 sounds completely different to the M1 plugin despite having the exact same patches. The real T3 is much deeper and warmer but also much more muddy. PG8X is a perfect JX8P rendition and PX7 is the perfect DX7. A shame it was discontinued but I will keep using it.

I tend to preset dive mostly, so it depends on the vibe I’m feeling. If I want a warmer/“vintage” sound I go for Synapse first. If I want easily tweakable I stick with RS cause I understand those better. And when I don’t have a clear direction I just patch browse a synth o don’t use often to see if something sparks an idea. But I don’t use the synths I have nearly as much as I should.

I was just thinking about saving some vst instruments presets in Reason format. At least 3000 from Roland, at least that many from my Korg bundle, Waldorf, Air Music, Steinberg, etc.

I went through a couple weekend long process (during COVID I think!) of auditioning presets from all my synths (Reason, Arturia V collection, UVI Vintage Vault and various other odds and ends) and building up a library of favorites so I could go to a known place and find sounds I know I like. It's been a huge production efficiency boost. Now when I add a synth I immediately go through all the presets and expand the collection with whatever resonates.
Software: Reason 13 + Objekt, Vintage Vault 4, V-Collection 9 + Pigments, Vintage Verb + Supermassive
Hardware: M1 Mac mini + dual monitors, Launchkey 61, Scarlett 18i20, Rokit 6 monitors, AT4040 mic, DT-990 Pro phones

I recently sold my original K4! I do love some of the sounds, but it was so hard to create new sounds. So happy we've gone back to synths with lots of knobs!

I bought a refill that has all the classic sounds I loved, so it was just gathering dust.

Sounds like a good idea.
However, I just discovered (realised) that Reason 13 DOES support .vstpreset format (from Cubase) and I can copy/paste them in to the user folder!
