Hi, I have a challenge for any Reason experts to help me with. I would like to see if I can create a multi-instrument Combinator where a virtual knob is programmed as an "instrument selector". So if I had 4 instruments inside, 0-25% selects instrument 1, 25%-50% selects instrument 2 and so on. Only the selected instrument should receive MIDI notes and performance controls.

That's easy to do using just those two free REs inside of a combinator:

Thank you, but the instructions are really hard for me to grok. Can you help?

Put a "Receive Notes" on top of each of the instruments you want to control and set it to the respective channel (1-4). Then add a "Select Program" on top and map its select rotary to a rotary of the combinator to stretch its values from 1 (0%) to 4 (100%). Then wire the "in Enable" on each of the "Receive Notes" to the outputs of the "Select Program". Et voila! It should work just like you desire.

I just tried it out to see if I remembered it correctly. And one thing that has to be done a little different:
  • Create a combinator
  • Put a line mixer 6:2 in it
  • Put some instruments in it
  • Put a "Receive Notes" on top of each of the instruments you want to control and leave set it to "Any".
  • Add a "Select Program" on top and map its select rotary to a rotary of the combinator to stretch its values from 1 (0%) to 4 (100%).
  • wire the "in Enable" on each of the "Receive Notes" to the outputs of the "Select Program"
This should then result in a combinator like the one I've attached here (R11+):

NoteRoutingTemplate2.cmb.zip
alternative signal routing
