Felt like you were going out of your way to constantly disagree which can become annoying then I say something in anger which I regret hence the modified comment.crimsonwarlock wrote: ↑10 Oct 2022Opinions indeed.

If I had any DAW type subscription I would probably cancel them because of the current economy.crimsonwarlock wrote: ↑05 Oct 2022Music can be an expensive hobby, if you think you need expensive stuff. I've used only free plugins together with a Reaper license that cost me about 50 euros back then (and it still works fine). I would say that's pretty cheap. Of course, you need a computer, but you can use that for more than just making music. Even a one-time purchase of a Reason perpetual license is doable in the scenario that I gave (year-end bonus, etc.). I still won't call that expensive.
It gets expensive when you start paying monthly recurring sums of money, no matter how little it seems at a time.
To put this into perspective, $20 was about a week of groceries to me, only a few years back.
Adobe works because for £50/mo you get access to the software you will use to earn more than that each day. And that's if you choose to go for the all-packages subscription. When you're freelancing, it's a no-brainer to pay for your tools, because not paying for them will pretty much guarantee you won't be able to pay for themkitekrazy wrote: ↑10 Oct 2022If I had any DAW type subscription I would probably cancel them because of the current economy.
There seems to be no end to the "sub only" pandemic. There are way too many alternate choices out there. The sub model has been out there for a long time. Sure it works for Adobe since people like to take pictures but DAW users are a minority.

To put this further into perspective, $20 hasn't been a week's worth of groceries in the US for most people since the 1970's. I mean, unless you're super fond of living off of instant-Ramen.
I've done it with $25 just a couple years ago and on a diabetic diet. This was when 18 eggs were under $3. When you buy meats they are spread out over weeks. I live where produce is not expensive.EnochLight wrote: ↑10 Oct 2022crimsonwarlock wrote: ↑05 Oct 2022To put this into perspective, $20 was about a week of groceries to me, only a few years back.![]()

No clue where you live, but where I live there is no way - not even a couple of years ago - that I could buy 7 days worth of groceries and support a diabetic's diet on $25 USD. But glad you were able to make it work!
i dont mind subs as long as theres a choice but i think there should also be a choice to rent to own perpetual versions and upgradesEnochLight wrote: ↑10 Oct 2022Termigator wrote: ↑10 Oct 2022TL;DR

But I guess this just all illustrates my point - some people feel the (regular priced) $20 USD/month subscription cost is way too high. Others look at $20 as disposable income and a mere drop in the wallet. It's all relative. I'm not here to debate whether subscriptions are bad (or "greedy"?); I see a use for a choice, and subs is merely one avenue. Myself, I prefer perpetual licenses, but I also pay for plenty of subscriptions. The market decides, and I roll with the choices.
Challenge accepted.Termigator wrote: ↑10 Oct 2022

you could actually get a week of groceries
if you got a bag of chips ( fries )
70p
reduced bread 10p a loaf
cheap pizzas 80p
bag of sausages £1
