I just cleared my download folder and gained 200gb. I've always held on to them so I wouldn't have to redownload any software. It saved me today when I needed to reinstall Reason,I didn't have to go and download from PH I had the installer in my download folder. But everything is gone now just when I was down to 60gb.
Cloud storage. Not for other than PH stuff. That goes backed up for the record.
Plus a 4 tb 2'5 inch drive is like 150 euros these days. Plenty of space, six years ago
it was already a kind of different story.
New kids got pretty lucky these days!

I'm sorry, d-what?
I try and keep as many files as possible. This causes an extensive need for backup but like @Re8et mentioned, storage is really cheap now a days. I still remember paying $300 for a 20GB disk or the same for a 16GB memory card. I also try and clean out any files I'm absolutely sure I won't need or could easily obtain again, like movies, installs or stuff I know several others have.

Very often, basically whenever I d/l something and use it, I then clear the folder. With today's d/l speeds it's not an issue.
However, I plan to d/l all my DAWs and plugins one day & store them along with serial numbers somewhere, just in case

Where is this download folder?

About once a month or ever other month. For me, keeping installers and other files I only needed temporarily is a waste of space. It's rare that I need to reinstall anything and if I do, downloading is quick.
When I got a new computer about a year and half ago, I made a conscious decision to handle downloads better. I now have every download prompt for location, and I save it to an appropriate location - bypassing the download folder completely. There's nothing in there.
I do keep all my installers, though I can see why one would be opposed to that. Personally I have them organized by company, and I have entirely separate folders for plugin installers and other program installers. I save everything on a 2TB external drive that is backed up to Google Drive automatically.

Well I don't download to the download folder so never. I keep all installers on a separated disk. Anything I do download gets put in the appropriate place and added to the weekly back-up on another separate disk. Have a 3 GB partition for temp files and clean regular with CCleaner.
200GB that is a lot of porn.

It is not too much of an ask for people or things to be the best version of itself!
