Hi,
i suddenly got adds on keywords or phrases which link to some crap. Is this a new feature on this site or is my computer just infected?

Still happens, on Chrome, completely different system so probably not infected. Pretty weird, if "Reason 11" links me to some pullover for woman...

Are you using any extensions on Chrome? Use Brave instead, factory default. Just guessing obviously.

Try on another platform, like your phone, iPad, etc but sounds like you've already did this maybe.

Just checked. Here is the result. Its added by VigLink (from Wikipedia: "...operates using a JavaScript library that customers install on their web site to identify and monetize all potential links..."), so it looks like it comes from the Server. It appears in other browsers too.

I guess that's what pays our bills for this forum site. A necessary evil.Loque wrote: ↑14 Jan 2020Just checked. Here is the result. So ReasonTalk admins never even chimed in about this shit? What the ferk. This is spammy as hell.
It ain't that hard to run ads at top or bottom or sidebars. And running a forum doesn't cost enough to justify cheapening the experience for the users by injecting spammy bullshit into the comments. Super lame move.

Are you a mod/admin on this site? No? Well I'm super glad you got that off your chest.orthodox wrote: ↑28 Apr 2020Thank you. Your opinion is super important for us.sublunar wrote: ↑28 Apr 2020So ReasonTalk admins never even chimed in about this shit? What the ferk. This is spammy as hell.

We're not running ads. We used to run Google Adsense, but removed this a while ago. If there's still Viglink affilliate stuff here, we'll investigate.
Whether or not a forum costs enough to justify "spammy bullshit" (which we've ALWAYS tried to avoid) is not relevant. Running a few VPS'es to support everything costs something, after all.

Viglink stuff is definitely still there, sometimes. I apologize for my tone/language, but I admin a forum and that's the same kind of tactic used by spambots, so my hatred for random links in comments perhaps stems from spambot PTSD.Kenni wrote: ↑29 Apr 2020We're not running ads. I can understand that you want some return of your invest. I dont have any idea of the costs, but maybe the ppl here would spend a few bucks to make it easier. Maybe you can make a transparent donation thing? I would give a few bucks. When i just think of the money i saved through the "deal" posts...Kenni wrote: ↑29 Apr 2020We're not running ads. I wonder if it would be OK for you admin and Reason Studios to create a ReasonTalk RE. I don't know what it would do. Blinking lights maybe?
It would be created explicitly to support the forum. Have some paid updates when you need the cash.
Good idea?
Evil idea?

I see it as a talkbox reproducing common complaints about Reason and awful company decisions.

I don't want to go via a another payment processor (paypal, patreon, etc). I want to pay via my Reason Studios account: updates or sub.
It could be like a LED scrolling text sign. The forum votes for what it would say.

The RE needs to be updated regulary...Maybe once a year and you need to pay the update (or not). Dont forget, that some cash always flows to RS.

I know. As long as the % does not go to another platform. We would support Reasontalk and RS at the same time, staying within "our" ecosystem.
Paying for the updates would be part of the direct support, something one would look forward to do.

The Crying People Tribe will cry, no matter what. This is what they do.
It could be a way to support the forum with cash directly, without dealing with ads, while enjoying surfing the web with Brave, like myself.
Is a REtalkDotCom possible?
Maybe not.
It was a simple suggestion.
