Hello,
I need help to figure out this setup.
I want to play or record midi tones on a keyboard, then let it run through arrpegiator and then sent to my Prophet 5. The prophet will then be recorded (line signal to my interface and toreason 13. The last step is no problem. But how do I make the midi setup in reason13? Thankful for any answer.
How to use arp. and send to Prophet5

Thanks for your reply.
So If i have maped midi in the sequencer I have to drag the midi down to a midi out device in the sequencer and add the arrpegiator as an insert? Is that what you mean?

The MIDI Out Device in Reason is used to control external MIDI instruments, such as software synths or hardware instruments connected to your computer. It acts as a MIDI router, letting you choose the MIDI port and channel to send signals to. The MIDI Out Device is controlled by the Reason sequencer, just like any other instrument in the software. This means you can use note lanes and automation on the device's track. The main difference is that the device doesn't make any sound itself. It has to be routed to an external instrument to generate audio.
Now let's look at the two arpeggiators you mentioned:
RP-8 and Dual Arpeggio
●
The RP-8 Arpeggiator is a monophonic device. This means it can only control one voice at a time. It generates CV and Gate signals from incoming MIDI notes. It also has a 16-step pattern editor to add rhythmic variations to your arpeggios.
●
The Dual Arpeggio, on the other hand, is a polyphonic device. It has two independent arpeggiator sections that can be used in parallel or split across different key ranges. You can create patterns with up to four notes. It doesn't generate CV signals like the RP-8. It works directly with MIDI notes.
Sending Arpeggiated Chords to an External Synth
You can use either the RP-8 or the Dual Arpeggio with the MIDI Out Device to send arpeggiated chords to your external synth:
Method 1: Using the RP-8
1.
Create an RP-8 device and a MIDI Out Device in the Reason rack.
2.
Connect the RP-8's CV and Gate outputs to the corresponding inputs on the MIDI Out Device's back panel.
3.
Set the MIDI Out Device to the correct port and channel for your external synth.
4.
Record or program MIDI notes on the RP-8's sequencer track. The RP-8 will arpeggiate these notes and send them to the MIDI Out Device.
5.
The MIDI Out Device will then transmit the arpeggiated notes to your external synth.
Method 2: Using the Dual Arpeggio
1.
Create a Dual Arpeggio device. You don't need to connect it to any other device in the rack.
2.
Create a MIDI Out Device and set it to the correct port and channel for your external synth.
3.
On the MIDI Out Device's track, record or program MIDI notes representing the chords you want to arpeggiate.
4.
Route the MIDI Out Device's track output to the Dual Arpeggio device. This will send the recorded chords to the Dual Arpeggio for processing.
5.
The Dual Arpeggio will arpeggiate the chords and send the output back to the MIDI Out Device.
6.
The MIDI Out Device will then transmit the arpeggiated notes to your external synth.

Gemini did not get the 2nd option quite right, as you should create the external midi device first and then put the dual ARP on top of it.

This is puzzling. Yesterday we were 3 decently able persons trying to setup but we failed.
We have a midi track recorded in the sequencer. We want to use the dual arp. and then send it out to my external Prophet5.

The midi out device doesnt have a track output and a dual arp. is automatically created with a id8.
It doesnt add up. Why is this so hard to setup? Why doesnt anyone really know how to do it for real?

Assuming you already have a clip/track of chords that you want to arpeggiate on the Prophet. (I've pre-recorded chords on a Subtractor track, though I don't intend to hear the Subtractor)
- Add a MIDI Out Device (a track is auto-created).
- Set up the MIDI Out Device port and channel to match your Prophet.
- Attach a DualArp to the top of the MIDI Out Device.
- Alt-drag (copy) the MIDI clip of the chords into the MIDI Out Device track.
- Playback

I'm not 100% clear what you have already recorded as MIDI, but will assume you've recorded chords and are hearing it play an instrument (you can't record MIDI without creating an instrument first).Successum wrote: ↑28 Dec 2024This is puzzling. What I would do next is to add the Dual Arp Player to this instrument, then make sure it's sounding like you want. THEN you can replace the instrument with the MIDI Out Device (drag and drop on top) and set it up to send to the Prophet 5 (I'm assuming a lot here, included that you've already got this part working - let me know if I've skipped anything).
That's the setup: MIDI Clip/Track feeds ARP which sends the results to the MIDI Out Device which routes it out to the Prophet5, done. Make sense?
