Lots of great new features and workflow enhancements in this - glad to see Akai keeping up the support! Any MPC owners out there in the Reason family?

So, I've been playing with MPC 3 for a bit now - and honestly I am having a hard time finding fault in most changes. That said, I always used my old 2.x MPC as a 1:1 track setup when I wrote, because I was so used to it in a DAW environment, so all of my old Projects have ported over just fine so far. But these new features? JUST:

It's been 18 months and it's basically turned all of my Komplete hardware and library into expensive paperweights.
I gave the MPC One a go, and it was a lot of fun. Then they brought out Fabric and the Studio Piano/String devices, and it suddenly turned into a powerhouse. I returned the MPC One as I wanted Wifi and USB3 support.
I got an MPC Live II later in the year as a cheap and portable piano that didn't come with the distractions of a PC. I soon found I loved everything about it. I love the workflow and using it taught me just how unimportant large libraries are. I occasionally boot up Maschine, but for the most part I don't feel anything is lacking when I use the standalone MPC.
I'm looking forward to MPC 3

Already got it installed but can’t play with it yet
Looking at it from the side of my eyes while I work on other projects that need to be finished today instead of playing with the new firmware

I've been using it for a minute. I like the changes. Disk streaming is awesome - can finally record unlimited audio. I like the new Main page design, and I love the new Mixer. Not a fan that time signatures and MIDI event track mutes are bonk, but I'd wager those will return soon. Cool there's (FINALLY!) tempo automation, though. Sampling direct to pad in Main mode is cool AF - it's so easy to build Drum Programs now!

I'm missing Clip Programs. In fact, seeing as how the Arranger and some other features were taken from the Akai Force OS, I really REALLY hope they eventually add the Clip Matrix. I'd love to have that as an option on my MPC Live II.

Hah! Well, the Clip Matrix comes from the Akai Force, and it’s basically MPC 2.x Clip “Programs” done right.PhillipOrdonez wrote: ↑06 Sep 2024I have no idea what that clip matrix is but I want it cause I like more and more and more![]()

Ahhh clip programs like on the previous firmware? I don’t really miss those at all, much prefer the current way it handles audio. But sure I want them to come back for those who would find them useful, just don’t replace the current audio tracks with anything like the clip programs it’s all I hope for

Oh totally - you wouldn't have to worry about that. The Clip Matrix on Force doesn't change how audio tracks are handled; it's just a different "container" for Sequences (MIDI events) that can also contain audio in the form of "Clips".PhillipOrdonez wrote: ↑06 Sep 2024But sure I want them to come back for those who would find them useful, just don’t replace the current audio tracks with anything like the clip programs it’s all I hope for![]()

The same user who posted about the mouse thing said this on this thread, which I haven’t read, but someone on a different forum who did read the thread said that and I’m relying the thread to you now EnochEnochLight wrote: ↑09 Sep 2024Oh totally - you wouldn't have to worry about that. Ah right, yeah I was in that thread. That mouse thing was 100% false, as you have to SSH into your MPC and unlock a "dev mode" in order to get the mouse support, so unless you're a dev or have the technical knowhow to hack your OS, the mouse support isn't happening. That user claimed he saw Force Clip Matrix stuff in there as well, but until I hear it from Akai, I'll take it with a grain of salt.PhillipOrdonez wrote: ↑09 Sep 2024The same user who posted about the mouse thing said this on this thread, which I haven’t read, but someone on a different forum who did read the thread said that and I’m relying the thread to you now Enoch

I’m salty af they don’t let us have mouse control. Is such a no brainer. And we know it’s possible now cause we’ve seen it, but they chose not to let us have it

That could be automated into a script/executable you can just run without the expertise, so we're bound to see an accessible tool to activate this.EnochLight wrote: ↑09 Sep 2024Ah right, yeah I was in that thread. It's allegedly been there for many, many years and there's still no script/executable that I know of (without running an SSH into it and doing some leg work), so that might be no bueno. For me, I don't really care about mouse support - the less I have to use "accessories" with my MPC, the better. I bought it to specifically get away from sitting in front of my PC to compose music, and using a mouse would just make it feel too "PC-like" for my tastes. But I clearly see there's a desire from many to have mouse support. Hell, there's even a thread on the MPC-forums for people demanding an HDMI port so they can hook up a 50" or bigger display! For me, I'm like - at that point just... use a computer! Lol
But I really do want the Clip Matrix on MPC. Truly hoping that makes an appearance, and soon.

Editing midi on the grid would be so much better and easier with a mouse though, I don’t care how pc like it is (it is a computer in a box with buttons at the end of the day, and it’s only mine so it’s personal
) I just care about efficiency. I’m stoked about how much easier it is now to edit MIDI thanks to the new features in mpc 3, but it’s of course much easier if I could use a mouse just for selecting and moving MIDI

MPC 3 is out.
They've partnered with Native Instruments to give you an MPC edition of the Play Series (but you have to buy it separately even if you own the normal NI version).
I didn't try the beta so this is my first time with the new workflow. I like it. I'm not using arranger mode, but even the way it manages tracks and instruments is a huge improvement.

Is the desktop version getting updated or are they ditching it? It seems like it’s just a normal DAW in a box now which is fine, but it kind of makes a mockery of the MPC workflow mythology. Even more so if you want a mouse as well!

Hey wanting a mouse is good and valid here, who wouldn’t like better, faster MIDI editing?
