I had a M1 mini, that came with Big Sur.
I upgraded to Montery and then Ventura.

I had avery single driver working.
Now I was trying to open my boutique JP-08 in Reason and it didn't appear...
Every other boutique driver, Motu, Nektar, etc, are still working even
after I migrated to a M2 mac mini and updated to 13.4 Ventura...

I can not downgrade back to Monterey... Apple prohibits me from downgrading...
I have tried multiple methods, but every time, the M2 mac security pops up
and says the device does not support Montery...

It's only one driver, I already contacted Roland... but it bothers me that
I don't have anymore access to my JP-08...
I can not even do a back up, with the method of enter system whilst power up the unit...
the mac does not see it as a drive neither...

Just to point out, even if Apple has stopped updates for the M1 macs, so now new updated will
come out only for M2 macs, it seems to me a better deal a M1 mac with Montery and potentially
Big Sur...

The JP-08 driver provided by Roland was for MAc OS 11 or Big Sur, silicon or M1.
But also all other boutiques drivers are for Mac OS 11...

Don't know what to say, other that it seems really stupid that the M2 mac can not run Monterey,
and I have no way to downgrade...

Hmm I've never encountered anything with macOS that needed a driver. Everything I've used is class compliant. I guess Roland does things differently?

Looking at their site, it looks like there is a different driver per macOS version, are you sure you have the right one?

I went on Roland Driver updates page, and I checked what I was suspecting...
All the first series Boutiques Synths didn't get the Monterey/Ventura driver updates

NO JP08, D-05, Ju-06, JX-03.
All of these first series shared a common generic M1 driver, that seemed to work, at least for me,
even after updating to Monterey, but on M1 chipset.

Yeah, Roland does things differently, starting with CBS instead of Midi back in the 80's...
It hasn't changed a bit...

Oh gotcha. And I was looking at the OS versions wrong. I had seen 10.13 and was thinking macOS 13. You're right, looks like the latest is macOS 11.

and just saw this: https://www.reddit.com/r/RolandBoutique ... t_wave_of/

Have you tried resorting to using Rosetta 2? I had problems getting various plugins to work with Reason silicon native, so I had to switch to Rosetta 2 just to get a bunch of plugins to work.

How do I switch a driver to work in Rosetta 2???
I have no idea where the drivers are located...

What’s insane is that they’ve intentionally crippled the USB MIDI implementation. I heard from a well-respected manufacturer who dug deep into it… seems like they basically implemented class compliant USB MIDI on all boutiques and added some extra bits which make it no longer class compliant. When I heard this, I was really disappointed. It’s so much worse than just ignoring class compliance / declining to do it.

I can not even enter Driver mode, with the system power up of the JP-08. I have to use windows.

btw I received this mail from Roland customer service today...

Thank you for contacting Roland and choosing our products.
As you indicated, the Roland JP-08 model is compatible with the drivers specified on our site:
https://www.roland.com/global/products/jp-08/downloads/
I am sorry to inform you that we have no news that they will be developed as of today.
We invite you to keep an eye on the link I have attached to see if there are any new developments.
Thank you for your understanding and patience
Cordiali saluti - Best regards - Melhores cumprimentos

This means that I either downgrade the M2 mac mini to a M1 mini with Montery, or I'm pretty fxxxd!!
M2 do not allows downgrade to Monterey either, I have only one way to try force install Monterey,
using a pirate img from Pirate Bay because Apple store will not allow me, even if I own Monterey,
because I had it on the M1 and got it on my store page, the M2 is not supported...

Mmmhh... does not seem to have Rosetta option, at least the Midi plugin...

I have Xcoded (trying to rebuild bit by bit) the Roland Driver, comparing the new OS 13 Ventura compliant drivers of the Lucky Boutiques (Like the Tr09) to the unlucky one (JP08)
I just need to understand how to change some stuff, repackage unsigned, and... get some help??? There's some authoring stuff I haven't quite got...
Sigh... I hate Roland...

Abandon ship. I tried to get an overview of the process. Abort mission.
My JP-08 will likely work Midi Din only from now on, and future Ventura updates will be
done only with Time machine.

Did you ever get this working? I've been trying to update the firmware, but have to install drivers first (boo). Was on an older OS and couldn't even get the install process to finish, and updated to Sonoma and was able to complete the install process but the JP08 doesn't show up in the finder.
Everything LOOKS like it should work but I can't get the JP08 to mount on the desktop so I can update the firmware. Hoping to be able to use the KeyStep Pro to control the filter on the JP08, but it won't respond to CCs with the original firmware! Frustrating… :(
