For those who own one can you track independently, do overdubbing, mute tracks? Simple things. Thanks.

manual here https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/771748.pdf
From a quick scan of manual> seems it does not do what Tascam machines did in the past.
Seems like a multitrack recorder only. I could be wrong... the manual does not indicate any features but record

Thank you  . I went through the manual, but wanted a second opinion. Tascam still has 'classic' multitrack recorders, but wanted to know if the X8 was a bit more than a field recorder.

The Zoom handy recorders have these features.

Yes. That's exactly why I was wondering about the X8. I am not in a hurry to get the H6 because 32 bit recording is pretty amazing. I'll wait and get a H6 32 bit, or whatever is Zoom's answer to the X8

They just released the M series, which is a similar form factor with built-in mics, XLR inputs and 32-bit float, but maybe it doesn't have overdub?

Definitely go for something with 32 bit float recording. No more setting levels! (I use a Zoom F2 regularly for field recordings- a very different beast but the float recordings have been a revelation)

M2/M4 Mictrak? Not a fan of the form factor, so I haven't checked if you can overdub, or remove and swap the mics like on the H6 or X8.

Yeah I had just seen another video of his discussing the handling noise. I really like his channel and content and he's a fan of Zoom, so I trust his reviews. Hopefully Zoom will follow-up on it. I've owned an H4n, H5, and F1 and use an F8 and F6 when filming. Always great stuff. Hopefully like you said, they can someday just offer an H6 or H5 with 32-bit float.

I'm still hoping for a compact 32-bit float recorder with 3.5mm stereo input. The F1 I own has stereo 3.5mm input, but not 32-bit float. And then the F2 has 32-bit float, but it's mono only. Funny that the F1 is two channels and the F2 is one channel lol. And then the F3 doesn't have a 3.5mm input. I'd be using it with my binaural mics which have a 3.5mm connector, and would prefer to not adapt to XLR. So that's what I'm waiting for :)

So many 'almost-not quite' choices :-)
