So I jumped from Reason to Reaper... for some things

Reaper is the only DAW I've ever tried where I had to watch a tutorial video to learn how to load a VST onto a track.
It's powerful and flexible but it's also utterly sprawling and unintuitive. I think of it as the Linux of the DAW world.

(Oops - inviting flak from Reaper-ists and Linux-heads at the same time   )

it’s honestly bizarre how they’re constantly improving Reaper, yet they never, ever seem to give any attention whatsoever to making the default settings more intuitive so that it’s easier to use right off the bat.

it’s awesome. but holy shit, they’ve built a giant moat around the castle and filled it with crocodiles. I think that’s why they sort of need the $60 price point. not many people would want to spend like $200 or $500 for a DAW that requires so much customization before it’s even usable.
