Just ordered a sitar :)

Been wanting one for the last 35 years. Tried them in London, Amsterdam, Utrecht, Lyon and various other cities around the world. Working nights so defences are down...phoned Germany a few minutes ago and the order's in. Double gourd, 13 sympathetic strings and 7 melody strings. So looking forward to it. Just thought I'd let you all know. Woohoo!!!

Congratulations for your aquisition!
I did the same with a bansuri set some years go. Amazing instruments but really hard to control!

Really cool, you just reminded me I used to use a sitar refill a lot and haven't now for many years. I wonder if you could throw a little refill together, either way, I'm sure you will love it. I could see someone becoming a hermit with one of those!!

Congrats I guess. Maybe you'll be the first person in the world to manage to make a nice noise with one. It's an instrument that's right up there with bagpipes for me....

DON'T MENTION BAGPIPES - please don't. I shared a house once with a bunch of guys and one of them (from native Scotland) practiced his bagpipes once a day for about 2-hours in the living room. Half of that time felt like he was warming up with this non-stop piercing single note. It didn't matter where I went in the house it was like a drill to the brain - no escape.
I am scarred for life.

(Continuing my dislike of sitars I feel obliged to say...)
WHAT? Sitars are actually tuned?????? They actually want them to sound that way???? etc etc.
They are nice things to look at though.
