When did you enter the GAS???

This BF has been different for me in the sense that I finally had money to get the RE's and VST's I wanted plus a few extras. I've realized that I have now purchased everything I need to make "MY STYLE OF MUSIC!!!" when I bought Rapid.

Now I'm looking at the remaining deals and instantly thinking "Do I really want that?". I'm now fighting Gear Acquisition Syndrome. :shock: :lol:

So my question is: What purchase made you realize you'd entered the GAS?

My name is motuscott and I am a gearaholic. I should never have gone into that music store when I was 13.
It's a day to day struggle, but cheers to the cured ones

I am not fully cured, but things are getting better. What helped me?
* do i really, really, really NEED it?
* will i really, really, really USE it?
* Is it worth the price for ME?
* is it really a GOOD TOOL?
* are they trying to TRICK me with high discounts?
* will it really HELP me to sake music?
* can i ALREADY do it now?
* what does it ADD to my music?
* do i KNOW what i need?

And beware of
* it's nice, i could use it
* it's a good deal, i could miss something
* maybe it's never on that high discount again
* i would lose something, if i don't buy it
*...

I came to the conclusion that I can make the sounds i want and often could before. I just need to learn how to do it and hoped in the past that the tools would do it for me, but that was wrong. And today i think it's better to invest in just a few very good tools which might be expensive, instead of many that are cheap and than realize i need a better tool. As an example Fabfilter EQ replaced a lot of my EQs, filters and multiband compressing stuff.

i think now im done for quite a while maybe not forever but im going back to piano and singing for a while until i write something of decent quality .
this black friday i bought stringwerk which i will defo use as backing
soundcells afterglow ( which i didnt need and probably wont use coz how many pads do we need ? good refill though ) and i got something for free a good refill which is again more pads )
in the past ive bought stuff which wont fit in with my plans i bought it coz it sounds nice or looks fun.
the moral here for me is shiney plug ins are nice but half of them are toys
and what do us kids do when we have toys to play with ?
get f all done .

so im putting reason aside for a few weeks and gonna write some chord structures and some lyrics on the old digital piano
then when i come back im gonna add some treacle over the top with the stuff i already have ,
so many songwriters producers get so much stuff done with so little.
sure some people who still get stuff done buy a lot of things , but those people pull out a certain toy for a certain job

so if i ever buy anything more even an update to reason

im gonna use philosphys like above

do i need it ? if not not buying it ,

do i want it ( yes ) ok do i need it (no)
not buying it

is it something i dont have ?
ie like a violin ( do i need a violin for what im making or am i gonna pretend that im gonna score a movie one day ?

this is how im gonna do it , buying is boring now

how are any of these synths better than thor or europa ?
or synth 1 or whatever ? no there bloody not there all just synths !
i wont never buy another synth im done i have great ones in reason as good as any
and free good drums are freely avalable i have loads in reason no more drums for me ,and i have stringwerk so i dont need strings , a single cello perhaps ? dunno lf its something i need eventually i may come back
but Gas ? i think im cured , geezer is here with one speaker a laptop and a microphone audio interface and a digital piano and a copy of reason and one rack extension and 12 refills i think 7 of which are currently on hard drive
i am semi cured for now 🙂

Don't think I've ever suffered from this. I can fart a lot after having beans or lentils, but that passes quickly.
