Coming soon: Waldorf Iridium?
It looks like Waldorf’s stunning Quantum synth is set to be rebooted in a compact and hopefully more affordable format in the shape of the Iridium. This is designed to either sit on your desktop or slot into your rack.
It seems that the Iridium was listed on the Waldorf website and then removed, suggesting an accidental leak by the company. If the initial specs are accurate, this will be a hybrid synth with three oscillators, each of which offers five synthesis modes: wavetable, Waveform (virtual analogue), Particle (sampling/granular sampling), Resonator and Kernels.
The Kernels mode was added to the Quantum as part of the OS 2.0 update, and enables one oscillator to be turned into up to six sub-oscillators.

"Accidental leaks by companies" are so obviously fake, but very effective viral marketing campaigns.
Was the Quantum a hit?

Hard to say whether the Quantum is a hit or a miss. At around £3500 it's out of the price range of most hobby musicians so it was never going to be mass market. I've played with most synths bit I've never seen that one in the flesh. A good friend of mine was considering it but then splashed a similar amount of cash on the re-issue of the ARP 2600 - an utter waste of money in my view but he says I've got no soul! At least he'll get his money back if he ever wants to sell it.
I'll be interested to see how the Iridium is priced although with that large colour display I don't think it will be down with the Boutiques and the Behringers.
It will still be out of reach for 99% of artists. My guess.DaveyG wrote: ↑11 Jun 2020Hard to say whether the Quantum is a hit or a miss. Waldorf has today released the Iridium Synthesizer, an all-digital desktop version of the Quantum. Iridium has 16 voices and features the same powerful synthesis engine (virtual analog, wavetable, granular, sampling, resonator, kernel engine...) as Quantum but without the analog filter section.

$2 grand and change, yikes. Guess it won't be a VST version anytime soon
10% off at Waves with link: https://www.waves.com/r/6gh2b0
Disclaimer - I get 10% as well.

If the 2K price is correct then it's a really oddball price point for a product like that. I think they probably haven't done their market research.Boombastix wrote: ↑14 Jun 2020$2 grand and change, yikes. Guess it won't be a VST version anytime soon
16 voices, color LCD, CV, step seq, arp, ... and, it sounds like that?
From the $3500 rumoured above somewheres, $2k sounds like a Great Price.
16 voices.....? The Synth Sounds Great to my Ears.

At Thomann Germany the first batch is already sold out. Raising delivery time from 3 days to 5-7 weeks. For a good synth this is a reasonable price tag.DaveyG wrote: ↑14 Jun 2020If the 2K price is correct then it's a really oddball price point for a product like that. It's here. Bigger than I Imagined. A Beauty.
Knob action is Nice as well. Gamey Pads... I Like 'em!
Nice Layout - overall. My First Waldorf.
This'll hold me over until I can make room/afford a Moog One ... 16.
Sounds real NICE.
The Screen snappiness wasn't a problem based on my initial fumblings. Knob action is Nice as well. Gamey Pads... I Like 'em!

Congrats, that should keep You busy for a while
Thank you. And, I think you're right.
POLY. Finally. And, something that kills my LUST for the Moog ONE.
I needed something that gave me this:
Boom! I feel really good about this.
Best as I can tell, I bought a Computer dedicated to Audio Synthesis, with a modified Keyboard.
Rytm MK2, a new Mixer, and my Arp Landing, and it's a Go!
Happy music making to you, too!
