Best audio interface where cost is an issue...

I got buried in the other thread so...

I'm new to Reason. I have a Behringer UCA222 I used with Audacity. Real long story short, Reason doesn't like it. Even after updating the driver, Reason (and Audacity after the update) doesn't accept the interface. Guitar Center recommended (in the inexpensive price range) a Behringer UMC 22 or a U-Phoria UM2. After the experience with the UCA222, I'm wondering if Behringer is a still a good way to go. So, in the $50-$150 range, what would be the way to go (Windows 10)? Thanks!

For what it's worth, I've used the Steinberg UR44 for ages and had no issues with Reason. It just works.

What's wrong with Focusrite? Up to date drivers, good build quality, come in all shapes and sizes.

2i2 seems to be the most popular starter interface. I'd go with that one.

Stay away from Behringer. Presonus, Focusrite, Steinberg, Native Instruments all make audio interfaces in your price range and will be much more stable and supported than the Behringer stuff.

Behringer can keep up with the quality and performance of these brands. The U-Phoria UMC cases and buttons are very sturdy and feel valuable. There is nothing wrong with the Midas preamps. The buyer reviews on the internet are also positive. The value for money is good. I do not know why you should stop someone from buying? Can you explain that in detail?

I would look out for a 2nd hand MOTU USB interface, they tend to support their devices for the VERY long-term and support ASIO very well.

I can't speak for other manufacturers, who tend to drop older interfaces when a new version of windows comes out.

I recently bought the Behringer UMC404HD and can't be happier. I've read a lot of negative comments about driver issues and such but nothing of that was true in my case. 100% plug-and-play with Reason 10.4, Macbook with Mojave and a friend mine is using the UMC1820 together with Cubase and Windows with similar ease.I also read A LOT of positive reviews about the HD-series before buying as well. Of course, it IS a budget device and you obviously get what you pay for but it offers good value for money and the sound quality is definatly on par with the Focusrite Scarlett I own. The latency is basically zero. The "feel" of the device is also good with a metal chassis and distinct knobs and buttons. If you, like me, are on a budget and need more than one input as well as MIDI in/out I totally recommend it. Also please read the positive comments by other users here that helped me decide what to buy: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=7512749

The new NI interfaces also are worth checking:

Cool... Lots of good answers... and varied... RCA and MIDI inputs will be necessary... I'll check these out next week at GC and talk a bit more with the sales people... Thanks for the replies and any further replies too :)

I have two MOTU firewires, still not churning out the hits...
But you'd prolly want to go with something more current.

So, I went into Guitar Center, all set to buy the UMC404HD and the sales guy sez not in stock and hands me a Scarlett Solo. Haven't tested it out yet... Reviews were generally positive... The 404 had more in the thumbs up category... As long as it works and keeps working, I guess I'm good, eh?

Man the only thing they have in common is the price and the Kensington lock.. get the UMC404HD. Scarlett Solo doesn't even have balanced outs.

Roland octocapture or quadcapture are pretty straightforward also, comes cheap, I like them.

need only 1 input? Maybe try an iRig. They're great via USB too. Also, Mackie just refreshed their 2 channel interface. Looks nice.

+2. Been very happy with my 6i6. About to pull the trigger on an 18i20 as I want more i/o, including over ADAT. Top of the Scarlett line but still very well priced I think. The 3rd gen Scarlett devices recently launched. I'm looking at buying a 2nd gen 18i20, which are going for almost half the price of the new 3rd gen! Can't argue with that.
