Blackbox – Compact Sampling Studio ($599)
Hmmm... That's a lot of money for a small piece of hardware with limited control and a necessity to use what looks like a cheap touch display. And it doesn't run on batteries? You have to be plugged into power and audio. I'm not understanding where it is supposed to fit within a studio setup. Why not just get an iPad?
The target market, I would guess, is the Elektron Digitakt potential buyers, more than the iPad users?
The Digitakt has more physical knobs, pricier.

Now I get it, you just like to buy stuff!
There always a market for people are afraid of (or clueless about) computers or iPads for that matter. Or simply think hardware (even if digital) has a better workflow than a computer with far less limitations. Why can't we all be happy for the happiness of other artists?
We are still producing art, yes?
Jealousy is a hell of a drug.
Congrats to the brains behind the product.
Congrats to the balls willing to buy a pair

The nice thing about Eurorack is you stop spending when the rack is full.
The bad thing about Eurorack is you can alway purchase another rack - or just replace modules and re-sell the old ones.
I currently have two modules to sell, and 5 empty HP (with 3 of them pretty much accounted for). I'm due for a visit to Control in the near future
But on the bright side, I'm actually regularly making music with this gear, and playing gigs as well. I even have a "live in studio" performance on Echos due for broadcast in the coming month or so, doing my "ambient" thing with a long time friend/collaborator. So far it's been a successful return to hardware IMO!

No one is jealous of anything. Just some harmless banter as far as I'm concerned.
Yeah but I think there's a difference between full-sized workstations and desktop devices with ample control and interface. I only get confused when something is made compact, but misses the mark at being made completely portable. Being confined to a small interface/device is fine when the benefit is to be able to take it on the go, but if I'm going to be tethered to power and an audio output, I'd probably want a proper sized device with more control and functionality; particularly at that price. It will end up right next to my more capable, less fiddly computer/laptop. But again, if it was battery operated (built-in battery even better) and maybe even built-in speakers, I could see the appeal in the limitations presented with its size and interface.QVprod wrote: ↑07 Jun 2019There always a market for people are afraid of (or clueless about) computers or iPads for that matter. My journey is going well, OB1
Not really a HW guy myself, just a few mini amps and cheap guitar pedals.
