macbook pro 2012, external monitor help

Hi all - I'm new to the Mac platform, as well as to Reason. I'm using a macbook pro 13" (2012). I'm finding using Reason on this screen a challenge for these old eyes. I have to really "lean in" to see what I'm doing. I'd like to hook up another monitor to the macbook. Is this possible and if so, what sort of resolution could I expect? I would like to use both monitors in Reason - so can I then drag say, a Reason synth to one screen and have the rack in another screen, etc.? Then once i get a setup that i like, can I retain these settings to a new session?

Pardon the newbie nature of this post but I've never embarked on this sort of thing. Thank you!

If it has the necessary ports, it should work.
Micro hdmi to hdmi, hdmi to hdmi or DVI to hdmi should be doing the job.

Thanks Oquasec. Got it sorted - just happened to have the right adapter, what luck is that!
Just need to work out cursor issues.
