1: Read your manuals and search for fixed battery mode
2: Hack a Nokia/Samsung whatever charger with 5v and 0.5A out, split the head and get those two cables tidy and clean.
3: Open your battery van, and glue/solder/ those two cable straight from your old rusty Nokia charger to +/- pins/
4: Forget n.3 and try to make some cleaner connections while you there.

No batteries required.
You can keep the Boutiques connected with the PC and keep using the editors/librarians, etc.
Buzz/hums/whines gone.
