I just see the Moog ONE ... working.

I see you're going for retro gear. I have some, so I understand.
Good Luck with your workarounds.... and, beware of the 'off timing' issues on those things.

Thing of beauty but for 8 grand instead I will chuck a couple of legends in a combinator and I'm good :-)

Actually the Emus gone...got an FA-07 now instead, in combo with a Panorama P1 best of both worlds..

That’s so true. And a little side glance towards the things that Korg did with the Prologue makes the whole thing complete, I think.

This Moog One is targeting a special kind of generation: people with a good spine who can carry the One with one hand, or who can afford movers with strong backs. How much does it weigh?

Does it really need to innovate if it’s doing things other polysynths can’t? Just the modulation possibilities alone make me drool.

And as I said before, it’s the closest thing to a hardware version of Thor I’ve ever seen, which should explain my attraction if you know anything about me! ;)

I’m recently in the market for a hardware poly synth, and have been looking at everything I can find. This is the first polysynth, albeit also the most expensive, that’s checked off all the “must haves” for me.

These include:
At least 2 oscillators (this has 3)
Two versatile filters, one Ladder Type if possible
At least 2 LFOs (this has 4)
3 envelopes with looping, sync, time scaling, and variable curves
At least two part Multitimbral, with splits/layers (this has three)
Unison stacking of all voices
Independent ARPs per part and at least one step sequencer (this has three)
Modulation matrix for deep programming
FX per part and global
Plenty of I/O and controller input
Performance controllers beyond the basic PB and Mod Wheel (this has a nice looking X/Y pad)
Lots of physical controls for live interaction
Decent OS and patch system (this has searchable patches, time stamps snapshots of work in progress,
USB connection for offline patch storage)
A nice feeling 5 octave keyboard (will still have to test) with aftertouch
Performance features (this has the x/y pad, 64 performance sets for instant access, plenty of controller inputs, and lots of nice big Moog knobs).

So far only a few synths have come close, including Novation Peak, Waldorf Quantum 8, Roland System 8, Access Virus TI2, Nord Lead A1, and Prophet X.

Runners up include the Prophet 6, 12, and Rev2, Dave Smith OB-6, Studiologic Sledge, DeepMind 12, Korg Prologue, and Roland JD-XA.

But none of them have all the features the Moog One has, which may not be “innovative” but still, it stands alone with the feature set that’s important to me. Plus it’s a Moog, and I miss my Mini Moog. ;)

Now about that price point…

Thanks for your list, Selig. It's worth proper analysis.

Thor, in my limited experience is the Synth to Beat. Hard or Soft.
The idea of saving all my song ideas in one place (Hardware) -
- each ARP, Drone, etc, etc. saved by SONG - NOT, a few "parts" per "file"

I am one of those who have collected 4 voicers and MONOs. All to build one Synth. I just wasn't moved by the current Polys (digital-sounding)
Now, My search is Over. This is my Rifle.

$6000 of old Gear GOES. Ill cover the last $2-3k with new $$. That's how Ill do it.
Hopefully by mid-November.

Let me know when yours is delivered, Selig.
NOOO WAAAY you aint getting this.

After reading more (there’s an AMA on it there MAY be a little innovation in the new oscillators and having a LAN port for online updates, as well as the dual USB (one for MIDI to a computer, the other for storing your setups to take to another Moog or even using an alpha keyboard for saving and searching patches).

The audio path, minus the FX section), is 100% analog and as such it may be difficult at this point in time to be truly innovative in some big way. But after being disappointing in the poly world for so long (after all but dominating the mono/modular world), it’s about time Moog made a poly that didn’t pull any punches. All through the 80s there were Rolands and Oberheim and Prophets that showed what a poly analog synth can do, and I was always dreaming of the Moog version of those synths. 40 years later, I may finally get my wish.

There are other things that are keeping me interested. On the AMA/Reddit Amos was asked if they offered up 8 voice update for the 8 voice version to bring it up to 16. The answer was “maybe”, but it would cost more than the 16 once you updated and would have to be returned to the factory.

They were also asked about a desktop or rack version, with “no comment” as the answer.

But thinking of those two questions together, and remembering the LAN (Ethernet jack) connectivity, I came up with a hope: a desktop 8 voice version around the $4k range, that via the LAN port and/or MIDI can be linked to an 8 or 16 voice keyboard version to allow expansion to up to 24 voices with full control from the mothership. It would not only allow a lower cost of entry into the Moog One world, but also make getting the 8 voice a little less risky if 16 voices is really what you ultimately want. Certainly not as cost effective, but something to think of.

I want to add that I think this will be a pretty iconic synth from the perspective of synth enthusiasts and collectors. I personally have never purchased and analog synth, and having been lusting more and more for one the deeper I get into Reason, synth music, and sound design, which despite a love decades old, is continuing to grow. I've actually been following selig and eXode's posts about the analog polys they're interested in and it really seems like this synth is an answer to their, mine, and so many other's hopes for the ultimate elegant analog beast. I mean, Sakamoto and Ciani in the promo vid alone - two of my favorite synth heros - gets me giddy as well (I know its just promo material, but I guess I have to admit they know their crowd). I am personally going to continue saving my money even longer, even if I have to wait another 2 years. I'll always have Reason by my side in the meantime.

Moog One: Firmware Update v1.0.1

Features.
Issues.
Road Map forward....

- Will Voice number be a possible modulation source? YES. on the "to do" list.
- Future hardware plans? Mums the word.
- FANS?

.... Good to know what we're really getting.
