Just had a pleasant chat with Ralf from Nektar regarding their plans for the Panorama line. At first it started out as a Q&A about features I was looking for in an update, but at the end of the conversation, I was told:
There is no replacement for P4/P6 any time soon, though. But there will be something new shortly. I will write you once I can..
So, there you have it. No planned replacements for the Panorama P4/P6 anytime soon (and since we're talking about a 6+ year old product, I still stand steadfast that we'll never see a new version). The "something new shortly" sounds interesting, but honestly - I was underwhelmed with their new Pacer foot board. Not sure what they could release at this point that would blow my skirt up.

*UPDATE 29 June, 2018: aaaaaaaaaaaaand apparantly Ralf was lying. New Panorama line announced - the T4 and T6. That cheeky monkey, Ralf!

That makes me sad. Perhaps they will make a P1 with drum pads?

Komplete Kontrol is hard to beat.

I would assume something new means something related to keyboard control? Otherwise it'd be pretty irrelevant to the conversation y'all had. Shouldn't be another Pacer... At least I hope not.

Hardly. Pretty displays and that's about it for advantages. Sadly Nektar never made the same level of Cubase support available for all other DAWs. Panorama support in Cubase is pretty much unmatched. It even maps to Komplete Kontrol.

I still dream of a P1 with 8 motorized faders (+ a motorized master fader) and better rotary knobs with led rings for better visual feedback + better quality (aluminium) knobs (the rubbery knobs of my P6 got sticky up to the point that they feel very nasty and are not pleasant to use).
That would be an instant buy for me (although it will cost a lot more than the current P1).

That's a fantastic dream! I was gutted when I read Nektar aren't planning any P4/P6 updates. I'm willing to wager that the P1 is in the same boat, I'm afraid.

[[ UPDATE ]]

Nektar Tech just PM'd me via FB and said they have a new product launching soon (not a Panorama replacement, though) that I might be pleasantly surprised by. Hmmm... looking forward to seeing what it is!

Lol, I know right? And to add salt to the wound, he said:
<spoiler-warning> Bear with me - shall we say it won’t be long. And it might not be what you asked completely, but I think it’s cool. Would be interested in your opinion.
Hopefully at Sweetwater's GearFest this weekend. If not, I have no idea what "it won't be long" means. They are one of the registered exhibitors...

Asked them about an update the other day and this was their response:

"Hi! We are constantly working on our products. But unfortunately, we can’t share future plans prior to release.... Please bear in mind, that we also consistently work on the features of our existing products: So Panorama today has more DAWs and features then when it was launched. But trust me - we hear you! Thanks for the heads-up!"

Not as promising as your dialog but they didn't say no...

Hmmmm... no mention of RE’s, I’m afraid. :(. Little disappointed in the LCD, too - but some things look like an improvement.

Does the T4/6 use the same keyboard, faders and encoders as the P4/6?

The keys of my P6 became an ugly yellow colour and the faux rubbery faders and encoders became sticky and very unpleasant to touch (I did not spill anything om my P6).

The T4/6 doesn’t look like an improvement to me, I’ll pass.

I still hope that they will also update the P1: imagine a T1 with 8 motorized faders and beautiful aluminium encoders with led rings that show you their current value, that would be an instant buy for me.

This looks like an interesting product, and I suppose I should not bother using my old EPS 16+ since Reason doesn’t and never will support polyphonic aftertouch. The most expressive channelized feature in the entire MIDI spec and Reason will never bother so I suppose I should simply get a new controller.
DAW: Reason 12

SAMPLERS: Akai MPC 2000, E-mu SP1200, E-Mu e5000Ultra, Ensoniq EPS 16+, Akai S950, Maschine

SYNTHS: Mostly classic Polysynths and more modern Monosynths. All are mostly food for my samplers!

No, they appear to be totally different. The whole point of the T4/T6 is their "second generation" parts, most importantly the keybed.

Very strange. I have a first gen P4 that's 5-6 years old (I got it at launch). Mine are still blazing white and nothing is sticky on the knobs or encoders.

The keybed is improved, the pads are improved, the buttons and encoders are improved... the only thing that arguably appears worse is the LCD display and lack of motorized fader (which, let's face it, was mostly a gimmick).

Yeah, we've been pestering them for something like this ever since they appeared on the market 6 years ago, but they've made no motion towards doing that. I think this new Panorama line is indicative of where they're going. First time buyers should probably pick up the T-Series unless there's something about the P-Series that they really need.

I wonder why folks are seeing such dramatic differences regarding specifically the key and knob degradation levels on P4/P6s. Could it have to do with environment in which they are kept/used; maybe a smokey room or high humidity or temperature. Or do you think the inconsistencies are a manufacturing issue? I have only been tinkling with my P6 about 7 months and it still seems like new. I keep it covered when not in use and the room stays between about 78 and 80 or so.

Yeah, that's a mystery but you bring up a good point. For the past five years, mine has only been used in an environmentally controlled smoke free studio that's kept at a relative low humidity and constant 72 F/22.2 C. It doesn't even get sunlight on it.

From Nektarˋs Facebook and question if the new Panorama supports Rack Extensions:
"For version 1.0 via the grab system - full support will follow."

Yeah, I saw that too (I'm Dylan). :D "Full support will follow" is troubling to me. Nektar have a reputation for being glacially slow when it comes to software updates. If we see "full support" for RE's at all, I'd wager it'll take several years - if ever.

I have a mac so no qwerty macros on my P6 which was a massive dissapointment to me (i only got in in January). Thing that bugs me most is that i cant change a track/channel by pressing one of the buttons below the faders.....i can only eq or compress that track etc but i cant even hear it or focus it in the mixer or seqencer which is borderline retarded especialy from a live performance set up. Banks or no banks it can take a while to tap your way up from track 2 to track 28!
Tried it in Logic and sure enough ....hit a button below he fader and the panorama will select and focus the actual track for you.. its the same in cubase dont understand why we cant do this in Reason something tells me these t4 and t6's are similiarly awkard.
Dont know if its a Reason thing or a Nektar thing but its shambolic
