I had no idea something like this was in the works. Watercool and overclock this guy and you don’t need PH to optimize VST!!!

I am on win10 in 2018 and i cannot drag a window smoothly and the OS is blocked from time to time....All that on a 4ghz 4 core CPU with high class GPU...Hum....jimmyklane wrote: ↑06 Jun 2018I had no idea something like this was in the works. I could all do that smoothly in 1985 on a 7mhz cpu. Something went wrong with the software development in the last 30 years...

We have similar computers I think. I’ve got an i7 water cooled at 4.3, but I’m on Windows 7. I tried 10....ended up reinstalling 7 for my audio computer. For the touchscreen all-in-one we use as a media center/server in the living room, W10 works very nicely.Loque wrote: ↑06 Jun 2018I am on win10 in 2018 and i cannot drag a window smoothly and the OS is blocked from time to time....All that on a 4ghz 4 core CPU with high class GPU...Hum....jimmyklane wrote: ↑06 Jun 2018I had no idea something like this was in the works. I've switched to a PC and i'm finding it a lot faster and more responsive. I used to get beachballs all the time on a mac, even though it was a quad i7 with a superfast ssd.
Part of that could be that i have DDR4 vs DDR3 ram, and 8 cores vs 4, there is no competition!
Yeah, unless people are referring to the Mac tower, the Macbooks and other new hardware are vastly underpowered by today's PC standards. I spent 10+ years as an OSX user (I have piles of the stuff around my house), and spent the last 4 watching Apple piss away any hardware gains and performance they used to have. And the OS is just not worth being locked into the hardware anymore. They take features out of the OS and call it revolutionairy. I call it dumb.djadalaide wrote: ↑06 Jun 2018I've switched to a PC and i'm finding it a lot faster and more responsive. Lol! Pretty sure jimmy was joking. Yes, Reason absolutely needs to have VST performance handing fixed, and as most of us all know, it's in the works.Loque wrote: ↑06 Jun 2018I am on win10 in 2018 and i cannot drag a window smoothly and the OS is blocked from time to time....All that on a 4ghz 4 core CPU with high class GPU...Hum....jimmyklane wrote: ↑06 Jun 2018I had no idea something like this was in the works. Still - back on topic - the Thread Ripper 2 looks pretty bad ass. I doubt I'd want to drop the cash on the 32-core version, though, as the current 16-core is over $800 USD, so I'm guessing the 32-core TR2 will come in north of $1500 USD, if not higher.
That said... 32-cores for a desktop CPU???!!!! Holy freak'n cow jump'n jehova jebus in a jersey knit hand basket. I'm in.
But... at 250 watts??!! Yikes!!!!
UPDATE: crap - more bad news:
https://www.anandtech.com/show/12906/am ... 99-refreshAMD’s X399 platform only has support for four [memory] channels. For the first generation this meant that each of the two active die would have two memory channels attached – in the second generation Threadripper [2] this is still the case: the two now ‘active’ parts of the chip do not have direct memory access. This technically adds latency to the platform...
Not sure if the added memory latency will be an issue for us DAW peeps or not... :S

AFAIK Reason is faster on Windows than on Mac.theshoemaker wrote: ↑06 Jun 2018Tha'ts why I'm on Mac nowadays since a couple of yearsLoque wrote: ↑06 Jun 2018
