I'm a sucker for Vocoding, but I can't imagine wanting hardware for it anymore.

Vocoders and Filters for me.
Current Vocoding hardware:

Korg microKorg S
Alesis MetaVOX
Roland VT-3
Just received the PO-33 KO. Sampler.
Korg KaossIlator

Incoming:
PO-35 Speak ordered. See Cuckos. Live quick ideas.
EHX V256 . Presets, internal synth, MIDI in
Roland VP-03 . Step sequencer. Yes, that sequencer.

The VC340 if the price is right.

Vocoding is soooo... Organic.
They're damn Good 'Tone Generators' - if you Git my meaning...

Curious OB, aside from simply the enjoyment (which is good enough btw), why hardware for vocoding these days? I have a decent amount of hardware and I can't bring myself to use it much anymore except for novelty or toying around with my past.

Novelty toying around.. anything goes.. i was on about Production.
But, Id have to say, I can't wait till this is done, so I can JUST TOY around with my Gear.

Usefulness of a Vocoder - Depends on your workflow. Mine literally is -
- picking a key - maybe
- picking a tempo - maybe
- compose/pick a relevant beat - maybe
- compose/pick any melody (for pitch consistency) - maybe
... All Temporary.
then the Artist sings...

After that... I have a voice and not much else.
Where to begin....

I'll tell you where I won't BEGIN? At 'Heart and Soul'
.... i hear it in ... too many of mixes out there ... ugh! But - which mode? which key? which inversion?
Which notes to arpeggiate, to drone, to 'play', how do I transition? where to?

Vocoder... I've been BVD512ing since I started Reason.

But, it's more useful this way if you have realtime access to note manipulation AND the Synth Engine (and it's parameters) used to generate the signal - AND an ARP.

The BVD512 is adequate but DSP, no proper MIDI controller, lack of tactile control, AND - that digital sound - if you're not careful.

Peace.

The reason for hardware is that it has a better margin for the developer :) So they jump on the nostalgic train as long as they can.

And actually NOW is the time to do it if they want to sell hardware in the future. The upcoming musicians have no attachment to such old lumps of wire and metal so you have to make the few that still have that attachment use the hardware so the younguns get that "imprint" too.

Just like Reasons rack metaphor is becoming less and less intuitive as most people using Reason probably never even saw an actual AKAI sampler or Mackie desk.

Edit: Obviously I'm over-emphasiszing this, theres other reasons as well but don't let them fool you that what I wrote above isn't true. It is.

I hear ya both -- I have my kids play around with my stuff too the nostalgia factor is warm/fuzzy and I wouldn't want hardware to go away - just I've gone through those stages in my years and am lazy about it today for my own needs.

On a similar note, I can't stress enough how kick ass Parsec is for the vocoder - I bought it specifically for vocoding and that's all I use it for.

Thanks for the Parsec heads up!
Yes, you are right. From my little experience, the sonics of Parsec would be perfect for Vocoding my Grain bits.

Must Update.

Oh you just wait mate, the more you dig in, the more doors open - you'll be lost and completely happy to be so.

http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2018/ ... s-on-demo/
Behringer has made prototypes and is trying to gauge interest in the keyboard, to see if there’s enough interest to merit putting it into production.

Uli Behringer has shared his thoughts on anticipated pricing:

If our order book covers at least 1,000 units, it would allow us to sell the VC340 for US$ MAP 999.99.
If we can collect orders for more than 5,000 units, we could actually lower the price to US$ 799,99.
If we cannot gather at least orders for 1,000 units, we unfortunately would have to abandon the project as we would loose too much money.
Check out the demo and let us know what you think!

Yes, please.
