Any problems with MacOS Sierra?

I truly hate messing with the OS when nothing is broken but I may need to upgrade from Mavericks (10.9) for other software. I'm on latest version of Reason.

Thanks.

Yes. Reason does not perform as well in Sierra. Other apps I have are fine.

I know what happens when you update Apple Software...problems, that's what. I was considering signing up for iCloud storage, but it required an update to the newest version of OSX. Total deal breaker.

I've been running Serria for a few weeks with no troubles at all - what are you seeing Joey?

It's a known issue. It has been reported by many and Propellerhead has confirmed it that there are performance issues of Reason in Sierra (as well as El Capitan supposedly). This was the first thing I noticed when I got my new computer and compared it to my previous computer's performance. This is aside from the Retina graphics issue. I don't have a Retina display.

I spent a good amount of time with Apple and B&H with them at first telling me I had faulty hardware because my findings and performance comparisons didn't make sense. My new computer should outperform my old computer by more than twice (and sure enough, it does in most other applications). They had me run tests to reveal the performance of my computer is actually above par in many aspects and that Reason is the issue. And they weren't trying to get me to keep it, I had an RMA already setup. Again, they at first thought it was faulty based on my reports.

Sure enough, everything else is running much better than my old computer; just not Reason... And then it was also confirmed to me by Propellerhead. Bummed it's still not fixed. I was sure a fix would be here sooner and along with Reason 9.5.

I'm running El Capitan with no issues, but I moved from an ancient PC laptop to an iMac. It's possible I'm experiencing issues, but don't notice because it was still a huge leap in performance.
I've heard there are issues with Sierra. Last Alternative made a post about his system, and the Props confirmed it is a Reason issue. I think it also had something to do with his graphics card.
I'm happy on El Capitan and am nervous to update. Every time I update Apple software I've regretted it.
Remember how awesome iTunes used to be? Then they updated it into oblivion.

I noticed this as well starting with El Capitan and now Sierra. Reason runs, of course, but top-heavy songs with lot's of RE and effects would red line the DSP sooner than older Mac OS's would.

Maybe we'll get lucky when Propellerhead updates Reason to better handle VSTs, which Mattias reports they are working on.

I'm running a MacBook Pro from Mid-2012 with 16 gigs of Ram and 2.6 GHz Core i5. I held off upgrading for the longest time, but final upgraded to Sierra about a month ago. I have experiences some slow down and more of the beach ball effect since upgrading, but it's not anything that interferes with my productivity. Yes, my laptop is not lightning fast, but it doesn't bother me.

What I don't like about it, is actually the GUI of the OS. I'm not a fan of them trying to flatten out the design and make it look like iOS, but that's a minor gripe.

The primary problem with Sierra is that it is a Mac OS.

Lol.

It's the worst form of OS for Reason, except for all the others. Since I don't think we're going to be seeing Reason support for the new Linux desktop models (jk) are we?

If the Props ever made a Linux port, I would be all over that. I could finally ditch Mac & Windows for the rest of muh life!

I got my TASCAM US 1800 running fine with Logic on Mavericks.

I bought Reason and decided to do a total upgrade.
First i was getting BSD due security violation by the áudio hardware.

I did a csr rootless disabling and at least the BSD and reboots were gone :-)
http://osxdaily.com/2015/10/05/disable- ... -mac-os-x/

Nevertheless i contnue to have a message of áudio driver turned off and so you have to go to Preferences and choose another drive and choose US1800 driver again to turn its driver on.

This problem occurs with less frequency on Logic 10.3 but occurs. With Reason it occurs about every 5 minutes.

I have some 32 bit VST/AU plug-ins ressurected using "32 lives". The ressurected AU working fine on Logic. The VST ones doesnt work on Reason. I wonder if I have to turn the system down to Mavericks.

Best Regards

OS Sierra is only "ok-ish" for Reason if your mac has 2 graphic cards, then you have to disable automatic-graphic card switching in the pref. If you don't have 2 graphic cards in your mac, Reason will be unusable.. sad but true. It apparently is a problem with Reason, not the OS.. it's probably both. good luck waiting out for a fix ;-(

Can confirm, just installed sierra yesterday after a year on Yosemite and Reason. Yosemite it was rock solid stable minus the occasional vst crash which is expected with the first iteration of implementation. Sierra, I get dsp spikes with barely any rack extensions. I can't go lower than 128 buffer, or else it'll pop and crack. On a 6 core Mac Pro with 16gb of ram and an rme babyface pro. Just to confirm, I installed cubase pro 9 today and I can run a whole session of production at 32 buffer.

I hope they fix this soon, or I'll have to get reacquainted with steinbergs eco system.

Yes Sierra is shitty when you use USB sound devices.
I am having major problems. Will see if High Sierra is a solution of not I need to go back to Yosemite.

These links are for El Capitain and Mavericks, not Sierra - I've not seen any issues with Sierra myself…

In those discussions you can find people who upgraded to Sierra and still having problems.

https://www.propellerheads.se/support/n ... gh-sierra/

The following products are NOT compatible with macOS high Sierra:

Reason 9.5.1 and earlier
Reason Essentials 9.5.1 and earlier
Reason Limited 1.5.3 and earlier

maybe if you don't install the new APFS file system they work alright? it would be nice to have support and for older versions of reason like 8 and 9 before the vst support (dont think will happen).

Wondering how the new APFS file system might affect the performance. I guess that for audio writing/reading it might have some impact. APFS is promoted by Apple as being faster.

probably APFS will be faster (but from what i read in the web that's not the case yet) and more stable in paper than the old one but in real world i dont think end users will feel anything, it's more about future proofing their os for their later plans

I'm curious? How are Reason users finding version 10 runs on Seirra or High Seirra? With the new Logic update I'm tempted to upgrade from El Capitan. I'm using a late 2013 MacPro (trash can model) 3.7Ghz Quad Core with 16 GB RAM. I really want to upgrade, but not if Reason's performance takes a hit. I usually always stay at least 1 OS behind, and I know the saying, "Never change a working system", I'm just curious if 10.12 or 10.13 runs better than 10.11?

Any thoughts/advice/experiences would be very much appreciated. Thanks :-)
