In the market for a new soundcard to replace Balance
Adding some data to the pool... Tested my Motu 828 Mk3 Hybrid over USB.
I'm on windows 10, measured using VMG-01.
Running at 44.1 Khz with 64 Samples buffer which is usable without artifacts for me.
Analog loopback takes 405 samples for a roundtrip. So thats around 9ms.
Through ADAT the roundtrip time is about 603 samples, or 13 ms.
When i had Firewire i tested roundtrips of USB vs Firewire. Firewire was faster. Recently had to rebuild my PC. Don't have a firewire interface yet so can't retest that currently.

It's been fab so far here. Totalmix is great too.CharlyCharlzz wrote:I was going to say AudioFuse so.......... , maybe the new Babyface PRO from RME ???
7ms round trip at 44.1k and 128 buffer. Nice and clear. My focusrite FW card is kinda muddy sounding, not sure about the USB cards.
I'm on the fence between the RME Babyface Pro and Focusrite Clarett 2Pre. They both have excellent loopback implementations and a solid reputation for reliable device drivers, so it's a difficult call.gak wrote:It's been fab so far here. Music is nothing else but wild sounds civilized into time and tune.

for some reason motu's windows drivers have much higher RTL than the mac counterparts. The mac rtl of their mk3 driver at *128* samples is in the 8ms range. 64 samples is around 5.5
Still i can recommend them as decent sounding, reliable interfaces with superb dsp effects. See the thing is, with an 828 you don't absolutely need to monitor through a daw cause it has rever/delay/awesome compression/eq, built into basically a zero latency dsp mixer. I wish motu would release a guitar amp for their dsp as that would really round the package off. I think it's around 2ms rountrip though their own dsp mixer. peanuts.

I do like the simplicity of the RME Babyface Pro, so it's a definite contender. The single "big button" might take some getting used to, though. I've also considered the Focusrite Clarett 2Pre, but the fact that the mic inputs are on the front of the thing drives me crazy. I need the inputs in the rear, so I'm almost forced to lean towards the Babyface Pro. :/
