Hi there - new around these parts - was gutted when PH canned the forums over there...
Anyway - is there anyway to "lock" a control surface to a device?
Meaning - say i have Subtractor - and I map all the knobs to a controller - say a MPK49 (Akai) and twiddle away for hours and stuff. When I exit Reason and then come back the next day I have to re-map all those knobs etc all over again?
It would entail PH having a "when I load this device with this controller present remember the last mappings" feature.
It would be bloody handy for me...
I have not spotted anything in the docs or elsewhere about this - so if it is a possibility then let me know what Page it is on!
Thanks for reading.
Can u "lock" a control surface to a device?
The subject you are talking about is "remote mapping".
For many hardware controllers there are remote maps shipped with Reason. The MPk49 is one of the devices that offers prefab maps for most devices available in Reason (not Rack Extensions)
If you left click on a control on a device, you chan choose "edit remote override mapping". If you then move anything on your control surface, that thing will then get locked to the instrument. Those settings are saved with the project file.
You can also make your own maps that get loaded whenever you select a certain device.

Yeah, you have these two options for a device that isn't mapped by default. Either edit the remote map (its actually not that hard) or save a preset song where you have your favorite synths already mapped. Reason will save the mapping along with the song. Somehow it sounds like it doesn't for you though?
Heres some starter info on editing remote maps: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/mar07/a ... h_0307.htm

For super anal people like me, you might find yourself editing preexisting remotemap files, just so the layout of the control makes more send to you personally.normen wrote:... Either edit the remote map (its actually not that hard) ,,,
It's also worth noting that if you do edit a remotemap file, be sure to save a copy of it somewhere as the next time you upgrade Reason, your edited file will likely be overwritten in its original location.

It is not my experience that they get overwritten. Even when i installed 7 next to 8, they didn't get overwritten. Still i have them included in my daily backup schedule. Better save then sorryjonheal wrote: It's also worth noting that if you do edit a remotemap file, be sure to save a copy of it somewhere as the next time you upgrade Reason, your edited file will likely be overwritten in its original location.
