Update to my little hobby corner of happiness
I spy with my little eye - Uncle Al!!!! I missed them earlier this year - they were touring with Gary Numan and Front Line Assembly.

Lol, yeah, Uncle Al indeed! Been a fan of them and industrial (mostly Wax Trax! stuff but loads of other bands also like Skinny Puppy, Download, and the other subcon stuff, Nine Inch Nails, Coil and the like) since the early ’90s. Really chuffed that Al and Paul are working together again for Ministry’s ”last album”… yeah right :D

That tour would have been sweet, Gary Numan’s newer albums have been pretty great and Ministry did a fine return to form with their last few albums. :)

My new setup. Ableton 10 suite running on the PC, but I still have REason 12 perpetual with the additions of Reason 11 suite!

For the last 6 weeks I only used the Akai, as it is so friendly to produce music on.

I may one day share my "adventures with Al" stories about going up to Chicago when I was co-producing an industrial band Al took a liking to…

Took me a little while to build. Definitely when I upgraded from laptop screen to dual monitors it was a game-changer for workflow. Also getting the acoustic panels really help in my mixing so I don't always have to use headphones. Excuse the FL  , just happened to be using it that day (I have 3 DAW, Reason my main  )

Hey Tomusurp, your writing that your listening enviroment changed positively.
Wich size has your room and your absorbers in realtion, did you only positioning absorbers behind your speakers and at the left wall what we can see at the picture?
I still have to rebuild my studio in a new living room of 3,7m x 5m, studio desk in the middle at the longer wall, medium thick 2x3 carpet, 3seater couch, no absorbers now, still experimented with cheap acoustic foam a bit, but wasn´t a big thing and looks terribel, your absorbers looking different, it´s basotect or what kind of material they are made?

It's 244 Bass Traps from GIK acoustics. Bass is the biggest culprit because it travels farthest, so it's especially a problem in small rooms and my room is about 11x10ft. Those cheaper thin foams only absorb some high frequencies but bass traps absorb the whole spectrum. They are expensive so it took a while to save up. I strategically put them behind the desk, then some on the side and then I covered the right corner from top to bottom because that's where the most reflection build-up occurs. for the ones nehind and the sides, you want to line up the middle of the bass traps with the area between the bass port and middle woofer or basically closer to the bass port but not exactly because you still want to catch some mid and high reflection.

You want to ideally place your desk in the middle between the two walls but I couldn't do that so I focused on covering these main areas. On the left I just have thick curtains and also a big couch in the back that also absorbs some sound. It's not perfect but it works for me and you can also train your ear to mix in many kinds of environments.

Oh I vaguely remember that room due to the half wall!

Which monitors are those? Are they the same size?

I have and love the GIK panels over a dozen at present), even have a few the same color - a life saver, audio-wise.

Thanks for your hint with the 244 Basstraps from GIK Acoustic, so i have to save 240 or better 360€ for three Traps of 120x60cm size.
Their anouncement looks much more serious than the thomann acoustic stuff
they still sell whole kits but than it costs 1k mhh

So i would firstly give a self made constructed bass trap with Isover TP1 100 or 120mm insulating felt, with a wooden frame and some cotton as a covering a chance.
This costs only 30€ for 6 or 4 pieces of insulating felts + needed boards + duvet cover
